What to get in my MacBook Pro ?? Girl here needing help

🙂 Hi Guys, I have never bought a mac and I am ready. I wan to get a MacBook pro. What do you suggest to get in it when building my own.

I am a girl who needs help with this.


Also I seen there are protection for the palm and button what do you suggest for this?? I wan to take good care of it.

What case do you suggest.

So I am wanting the macbook pro. 15 inch :apple:
 
As for cases. I'm a fan of the Neoprene Sleeves Since it protects the laptop without me needing to buy a dedicated bag but rather allows me to fit the laptop in my messenger bag as is

Also for palm guards people tend to buy this though i have no experience with it
 
I personally wouldn't worry about the palm rests and button, but get as much RAM as possible. Crucial or OWC are good places to get this, but it is kind of a pain to replace it yourself in a MacBook Pro.

If you went with the MacBook, it is really easy to replace the RAM and the Hard Drive. May I ask why the MBP over the MB? I happen to think the MB is one hell of a machine.

A large HD is good to have, but other than that, the MBP should be good to go.

Listen, you're going to hear a lot of people tell you a lot of things here in the forums... If you're looking for a good laptop, you really can go with the base model and still be a winner (they are all slam dunk machines). The base model comes with 2GB of RAM which is plenty for regular wear and tear. if you need more ram, get it later... only as needed.

Then, just invest in a case and AppleCare and you're set. No kidding. I give advice to many of my clients on which Mac to buy and the current models are all winners.

that'll be a great machine! like another poster has said get a neoprene sleeve, i've got one on my old iBook and it protects it brilliantly!

Depends what you are going to use it for? If you let us know then we'll tell you whether you need the top spec. But in reality if you want the 15" the main component you need to worry about is the hard drive. Are you doing video or audio work? If so go for speed over space - get the 7200 RPM drive. Need loads of storage? Get the slower, but larger hard drive. But there's always the option of a nice external Firewire 800.

I agree with ErikAndre, you'll get more performance from more RAM than the slight CPU bump in speed. Installing your own memory is easy - I feel confident that my 55 year old mother would be able to do it without a problem. The MacBook Pros probably will be updated slightly soon, I wouldn't say it's worth waiting if you need it now. I can only see some minor speed bump, nothing too crucial. Also look into getting it as cheap as possible - if you are a student, use your student discount. Keep an eye on the refurbished store - I bought a refurb macbook pro recently and it's fantastic.

Hi there well I will use it for computer graphics. I am in school now. I want to use it for all of my schooling.

I am thinking about waiting until they release the update on the mac book pro. I am not in a rush. I have many pc's now I am currently using. At school I use a mac. I am totally new to it. I still dont know where things are or all the short cuts.

I am so lucky I found you guys.

Just so you know, the next processors from Intel have been delayed and probably won't be available for another month.. so you'll probably have to wait at least until early March for the new MBP, which will offer about a 5% performance increase over the current one..

If you need it now, just buy it.

Also, the 2.6 GHz upgrade is a waste of money. The performance gain is like 4% over the 2.4.

I presume you mean photoshop and illustrator type graphics? IF so a MBP will handle these easily. With 4 GB ram it'll be a great machine.

Most of the shortcuts are the same as the PC but with a different modifier key. For example:

ctrl+c for copy becomes command+c. Ctrl+v for paste becomes command+v. Photoshop and Illustrator have shortcuts to nearly everything so it's worth taking the time to learn them. Of course you cant learn them all at once, but you can pick them up as you go along.

Sorry I just wanted help I noticed most on here are male I am a girl new to this. This is how I talk sorry if it bothers you.


I want to make sure I get help from trusted Mac owners.

Thanks yes you are right with photo shop illustrator indesign, final cut, and dream weaver ect. I will be using.


I hope they announce something some time I can hold out I am just very excited to get my first mac. I am going to need lessons on how to use a mac. 🙂

This is quite a common misconception. I work at an Art & Design college and we get students that have never even seen a Mac before. It may take a while but they usually come round to liking them, and being able to do wonderful things on the Mac. Admittedly, I'm biased and so I give students lots of help with the Macs, because I want them to like them!

But anyway - what I was meaning to say is that I convinced my 55 year old mother to buy a MacBook for work recently. She was very worried that she wouldn't be able to use it, having been a moderate PC user for the past 10-15 years. However after a month she's been downloading photos to iPhoto, using iTunes, and most amazingly copying photos from her phone via bluetooth! That last one shocked me. Good for her!

So what I'm trying to say is that you may find it frustrating at first (I wont say difficult), but you are absolutely making the right decision. I don't know why, but I still think Macs are the best platform for creative industries such as graphics.

Hands down. I am a PC Specialist and know the ins and outs of Servers/Computers running every kind of operating system (Windows, Linux, Lotus, Mac, etc..) and I must say... Mac is indeed superior with its OS, Speed and longevity. You do pay what you get for, but this is a purchase that pays you back.

Yeah! And further more I started work as an IT tech with no Mac experience, took me about a month then I got rid of every PC I owned. Then I decided to format the server at work over summer break. Needless to say even the server software is easy to figure out! Woot 🙂

OK I'll go now before I drag the thread off topic!

One thing would lke to know is what you are going to use your mac for. If you are not going to run any big programs on it, i would say a MacBook Pro is overkill, get a small MacBook instead. Then you can use the money you save for a big hard drive and 4GB ram, or something completely else.
 
Hi, don't forget you can get educational discount on your Macbook Pro, making it even cheaper 🙂. Your suggested spec sounds like a good one, but go for the bigger 250GB Hard Drive, over the slightly faster one. You won't really notice the difference, and hard drive space is always a premium in any laptop.

seriously, you can have the best notebook in the world right now if you just willing to spend a little more on the RAM

i'm telling you Girl, dont regret later on and say i dont warn you =P

I'm guessing she'll buy 3rd part RAM like everyone else because Apple's prices are stupid.
