Anyone know if Vaja is planning on making a case for the upcoming MBA?

Have you tried ringing them to find out? They will be your best bet, I've never heard of a bag rumour.

Just got word back from Cecilia at Vaja that they are planning a case for the MBA.

"Yes, it's in our plans for the near future to manufacture cases for that device."

They makes cases for just about everything, so I would expect. Though you may want to look into a foofbag. foofshop.com They make great cases, I have one for my iPod and I would assume their MacBook cases would work great though they may be making a special MBA case.

what product would you guys recommend that is similiar to Vaja's i-volution but is not rediciously overpriced? (Doesn't need to be leather.. would prefer if its not)

Vaja's site now has the MacBook Air listed under Notebook / Apple. You can sign up to be notified when it's released and also include some suggestions.

What would you want to see out of a Vaja MacBook Air case?

I recommended a spot for the charger.
