I'm find these forums and this site in general to be pretty helpful...so I decided to pay the $25 and become a contributor.

I submitted my payment via PayPal. I was wondering if my membership and benefits were supposed to be activated immediately or does it require a few days to process.

It should happen pretty quickly, but you might want to log out and then back in to help it along. :)

Let us know if it continues - when did you pay? It should take more than a day, max, since it's relatively automated now, as far as I know.
