View Full Version : Anyone know a slick way to convert H.264 files into DVDs? (non-Mac)

Hey there,
This is a rather complex issue to describe, so bear with me. :)
I have ripped my entire DVD collection to H.264 via Handbrake. I typically use my Xbox360 to play the H.264 files on my TV, which works pretty well. However, lately I've been wanting to burn some of these movies to DVD for when I travel and want to share a movie with my friends/family without taking the original out of storage and scratching it all up.
In short: I need to take H.264 files and make plain ol' DVDs out of them.
I know what you're saying.. DUDE! iDVD does exactly that! Read on..
I have a couple of older (G4-era) Macs that do not have Superdrives. Thus, I have no way to burn DVDs on any of my Macs.
My home-built PC *does*, however, have a DVD writer. So ideally I need a Linux or Windows software solution to this problem. (if my Macs had DVD-burning ability, I'd obviously use iDVD)
I've tried using a pretty powerful freeware app collection called FAVC, which I've not had any luck with. (it transcodes for ages and simply creates empty TS folders)
Thought I'd toss this conundrum out to my buddies here on MR, hoping that someone may have already solved this.
(posting in 'Community' rather than 'Mac Software' since I'm really looking for a non-Apple software solution until I can come up with enough cash to buy a new Intel Mac someday)

PS: I'm obviously continuing to research the subject, so I'm not looking for folks to Google this for me. :p
I'm primarily interested in people who've *already* done this and can share their experience. What worked well? What didn't? :D
Also, I'm not really interested enough to spend a bunch of money on this project. Freeware software would be ideal, but I'll pay a bit if it's assured that the program is so incredible that I'll never have to worry about this issue ever again. lol
