Panther 10.3 and Journal FS help

Hi, I read in this OS News Article, that a clean install of Panther is with Journal File System enabled. I heard this slows things down, do I need to do this?

Thoughts please!

could you post a link to that article? i haven't heard much about Panther at all... any info about it's new features and changes would be good.

Default is HFS+ w/ Jounaling enabled.
But if you startup off the Panther CD, you can always use Disk Utility, and erase the volume with or without Journaling enbaled.
You can also "switch" it on or off in the CLI (type "disktutil"... you'll see from there)
I have tried a couple of Panther dev. builds with journaling on and off.... I didn't notice any speed differences. Don't know what a video editor has to say about it though.... (or anyone else using heavy disk related apps).

Video editing is normally a few large files - i think (from my trying panther (now in jag) w/FCP4) that the system speed up and addded security of journalling will make the difference neglible:

writing 1MB or information to the journal is nothing compared to writing 1GB of video data. Average render files are around 500MB-3GB.
