Is it safe to unplug the ethernet from the internet while in sleep?

Is this a safe thing to do? I have read of alot of issues with ethernets stuff for macs. This is my first apple, it is a macbook.

eh? yes. Asleep, awake, whatever - all unplugging your ethernet cable will do is disconnect you.

You may have to Repair connections or Restart.

You could crash the internet if you do it too quickly. That's why sometimes the internet doesn't work.

No problems... with one caveat.

If you have a network drive mounted, unplugging the ethernet cable while sleeping, and failing to plug it back in before waking up, can cause the Finder to hang.

This is in fact a problem in Tiger. I don't know if Leopard fixes this or not.

It actually has--the pop-up "Unable to connect... Disconnect?" message that was added under Tiger actually works properly in Leopard.

FINALLY, I might add--this was a pretty significant issue, particularly since on some Macs the ethernet port doesn't wake up immediately, so it might take a few seconds for the network to kick in, during which time apps with open documents on the mounted volume might well freeze permanently. This was particularly bad under 10.3, but 10.5 seems to have finally fixed it entirely.

Huh? The only Repair Connections I'm familiar with is in Windows.

Regardless, no, you won't--it'll kick in a few seconds after reconnecting the cable. I do this with my MBP all the time and have never had to do anything other than wait five or ten seconds for the connection to kick in.

🙄 Dumb question? Maybe, but I am a complete newbie. Trust me, I have hundreds more just like it.😱

Is it safe to stop thinking when you go to sleep? I might crash my headFinder, anyone have any thoughts?
