Will adding more RAM to my Black MacBook help stop my computer from heating up as often?

It's possible I suppose.

If you don't have enough RAM for what you do then your computer works harder and you put it under more stress, making it heat up more.

I suggest downloading smcFan Control as it keeps the computer cooler with higher minimum fan speeds.

Depends what is causing the heat. If it's coming from the hard disk more RAM will definitely help. Otherwise probably not.

How do I find the cause?

I checked my RAM frequently, and I typically don't have more than 50MB of free RAM. Is this an average amount, or does that mean i'd be better off with an additional gig of ram?

It also depends on where you keep your laptop. Is it raised? Do you use it on your "lap".

puttin anything on your bed that creates heat will make it hotter there is no air flow and it helps hold heat.
also i have heard that putting up to 4GB of ram in will keep your computer running normal temps no matter what the task you are doing is... also if you have a spare tile or granite board around your house it help pull heat away if used as a small work space..

That's not really good...

You have no way to ventilate the heat. Try to put it on a hard service.

90f is like nothing! mine runs at 120-135f

It is 90 Celsius..... in Fahrenheit it is like 190 F some times:( is this a problem?
on an average it stays around 124 F

i upgraded my ram from 1gb to 2.5gb the other day and it didnt help lower the temp at all. and it not like its on my lap or anything, its always on my ilap on my desk. on average it is about 135 degrees fahrenheit.

when you upgrade from 1 to 2.5 GB it is a small boost but your not gonna see a big heat diff it needs to be a bigger gap like 1 GB to 4GB you computer will work up to 70% better with 4GB but if you just go from 1 to 2 its still gonna be working hard to keep up if you run alot of program and keep the laptop on long. its kinda like having a 2 lane hwy that needs to fit 3 lanes of cars if you et a 4 lane hwy the the 3 lanes of cars will not be a problem making the trips back and forth

I went from 2gb to 4gb of ram and noticed cooler temps all around on istat. I think 90 C is toasty...that could be a problem if it's correct. You might want to have it looked at.
