So the title pretty much sums it up. The shadowing of the Mac OS X menu bar and the dock icons is burnt onto my iMac's display. They aren't noticible while working in OS X or while watching a movie full screen, but while loading my computer and viewing the solid white screen with the :apple: and then the light blue screen the figures are quite prominent.
Is there anything I can do about this? I turn my computer off at night and turn the display off (using Exposé) while not at the computer. Am I just worrying over nothing?

Well it's an LCD so the burn ins shouldn't be permanent. Leave the computer off for a while and they should go away.

I read about a similar problem in another thread.
Apparently, you just gotta leave your computer off for for a day or two and it should do the trick. :)

Like others have said .... leave it off for a day or so.
I have the Dock set to " Hide ", and I believe there is a program that hides the Menu Bar.
This may prevent it in the future.
I used MenuShade to hide the menu bar, you can get it here---> http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/

Yea I read the thing about leaving it off for a few days, and even found something about leaving your screen all while for a while. I can't go a day or two without using it right now, as it's my only computer, but next month I'll be getting a MacBook so it'll be no problem then. harcosparky, I downloaded MenuShade but it crashes every time I run it, I'll give it another go after I restart. Thanks for all the responses so far :)

i was the poster in the peter griffin forum, where images from front row were burnt into my imac lcd screen
i actually had the whole lcd replaces....because of the ease of which images would ghost on my screen and some backlighting issues
took it back to the apple store and after they ordered it, they replaced it within a few days

I wonder if it is crashing due to Intel CPU.
I have not tried it on my Intel Imac yet. This is my first Intel unit.
I used it often on my G4/G5 Macs.

You use the computer to much at one time!!!! It's not healthy, take a 15 minute break after like 2 hours, make sure the screensaver goes on, always use the screen saver, even on LCD's

Uhhh... I have used my iMac 6+ hours at a time and it did not have this problem. Never taken a break, spent all Christmas day installing apps, moving over information, playing Halo, etc. I don't think it has anything to do with how much you use the computer at one time. None of my LCD's ever do this. I read leaving the computer off helps too, trying that out is always a good idea.

That's your screen saver right there;).

So I believe I've found the issue. I was using the Apple RGB color profile, which wasn't on the list of "supported" profiles. So, I changed it to one of the supported profiles, the only one being iMac, and the screen burn isn't as bad.

That's what I thought too, but I usually do take a break every few hours at least. It's probably because I was using an unsupported color profile.

. . . I downloaded MenuShade but it crashes every time I run it, . . .
Ditto - it's been doing that for me ever since Leopard. I just assumed that it needs an update to be Leopard compatible - it's been at version 1.1 for while. I have the same problem on Intel MacBook Pro, and Powermac G5, so it's not about Intel.
