It's here and as yet still UNOPENED!

Not sure if it is in the new packaging or not, but it is in the box shown in the Apple Store as shown below.

As much as I want to tear it open and fire it up, I got things to do around here.

Hopefully I'll crack it open after dinner !!!!

Oh and yeah, it's a 160 .... but I got plans to expand that! (maybe!)

Version 1 for sure...

Apple TV Take 2 is not out yet... It should be released this week, as Steve Job said on January 15th that Take 2 would be available in 2 weeks, which brings us to January 29-30. :p

I just got everything sync'ed from my Macbook to my Apple TV and played with it this afternoon... This little device is amazing!! I am now encoding a few DVDs to Apple TV's format.

No doubt it's Version 1, but it's in the Version 2 box! :D

I only brought that up because in other threads people were asking about the box.

Oh I was told the update will be out on the 29th. Several different clerks at 2 different Apple Stores told me.

They're 2.5 pata

Where can I confirm they are PATA? Articles I read on swapping them out say they are normal ATA.
Those articles are old ( March 2007 ), did Apple change to PATA? ( or am I an idiot not knowing PATA and ATA are the same thing? :D

Thanks. So could I buy a 40GB one and replace the hard drive with my 120GB from my G4 Powerbook?

Sorry to break it to you, but that is the version 1 box. The version 2 boxes will go out with the version 2 software in them.

Not too long now!

Isn't version 2 just a downloadable software update?

From Wikipedia:
Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) is a standard interface for connecting storage devices such as hard disks and CD-ROM drives inside personal computers.

The standard is maintained by X3/INCITS committee T13. Many synonyms and near-synonyms for ATA exist, including abbreviations such as IDE and ATAPI. Also, with the market introduction of Serial ATA in 2003, the original ATA was retroactively renamed Parallel ATA (PATA).

The drives in the Apple TV are indeed the older PATA kind.

Out of curiousity, why did you order the 160GB version if you were just going to upgrade it anyway? :)

Well when you think about it, after I do an upgrade I will have the drive I removed to deal with. In my mind, I'd rather have a 160 Gig HDD than a 40 Gig in the 'spares' cabinet. I mean what value would the 40 Gig have?

The 160 could be used to upgrade my sons Macbook, or put into an enclosure and used as an external drive..

I consider two things, what goes in and what comes out.

Yes, though when it ships, all new hardware will ship with it in a new box.

By 'all new hardware' do you mean the identical specs just new from the factory, or some subtle changes/updates?
