new to the board - excuse any ignorance!

i just purchased a new powerbook last week and wanted to use dual displays with my 17" adc flat crt monitor (the one that has the graphite translucent back - looks like an emac). i purchased the dvi to adc adapter at my apple store because they told me it would work. after hooking it up, i am still getting no picture on my crt monitor. my powerbook detected the display, and the display itself will shut down my powerbook via the power button on the display.

i bought this display used for $150, because i thought from a cost standpoint, it was a lot cheaper than shelling out several hundred on an lcd for more desktop space.

is there something i need to do to get the monitor functioning? ....or is there a compatability problem?

any help appreciated!!! thanks!!!

Have you gotten this CRT to work with other machines?

Did you ever see it actually working?

I'm just trying to eliminate this possibility...

Did you consider:
a) Buying a screen that isn't powered by the graphics card,
b) A new 17" CRT (new 17" Flat tube CRT's that don't require an ADC retail at any computer shop for less than $150US)
c) Seeing is believing (you should have at least taken your laptop to where you bought the screen and tested it)
