Wow, thats a hard question. Last week my connection went down for 2 hours, and I was starting to get a little fidgety (sp). But I guess when it really comes down to it, I could make it a week... I would just go bowling.

Totally addicted to teh internets and computers here.... One time I forgot to pay my electric bill, got shut off, meaning no computer... spent the night at my mom's because she has food and electricity - oh, and the great conversation.

I honestly believe I could go the rest of my life without internet. It's not really that important to me, it's just entertainment.

I have been on vacation in Europe where I really couldn't log onto the internet for about 2 weeks. It was hard and really weird, but I survived. It would be hard for me to go a week without the intranets.

until you have to

1) pay bills online/ manage bank accounts when there is no branch by you
2) when you HAVE to use email to communicate with some people

considering that i interact with clients 80% through email and FTP, i would say about 24 hours max.

They don't have internet in Oklahoma? I know that area of the country is about 10 years behind everyone else in technology, but damn! No overpriced AOL dial up on Windows 95 available for you? :D

And no, I probably couldn't live without internet. I'm going on a cruise in May and I'll know I'll be finding myself using the overpriced wireless at least once just to check in on things (the laptop's coming along to unload digital camera memory cards each night). Either that, or when we stop in Puerto Rico and the USVI, I'll be tethered with my phone since it's free roaming down there.

I will say in my defense though, that even though I use it all the time and would go nuts without it, I'm not addicted. I'm able to get off the web for awhile to do more important things, I'm not like some people who just can't get away.

haha they have it. just that the place they put me in didnt have it without me signing a 10 month or so contract when i was just there for 3 months

plus the fact that id be on jobs for over a week at a time (sleeping in trucks and such on location) and get 1 day off every 14 days meant not so much free time to really miss the good ol' internet.

of course macrumors is an exception!

I could go without internet for the rest of my life, if other people also don't have internet or if i really need to, otherwise, one week without computer, tv is great!! but after that week, i would probably want to go back.. :p

It would be hard for me to go a week without the intranets. Heh. V similar experience as yours. But I was in Greece for 3 weeks a couple summers ago and internet access just isn't as "big" there as say, London. It was a definite "lifestyle" change going from spending *cough*hoursaday*cough* to barely ten minutes on teh tubez™ two times in three weeks. :D But given the chance, I'd do it all over again.

Who'd wanna be cooped up on a 'puter when it's so damned gorgeous?! *swoon*

Depends what else is going on.

If I'm on holiday somewhere so have things to do with my days/evenings, then a lack of internet isn't particularly important. Yes, I like to have it to mail photos to people back home etc but a few weeks without it doesn't hurt.

But at home where it's a part of my usual life - bill paying, news-reading, shopping - then it's a lot harder. I was recently reduced to having my sole home access as being my iPod Touch - now that was tough but better than having nothing at all! :p

By nature of working with computers, the internet is constantly at my fingertips. However, I've gone weeks without access to it (or a computer), and am quite capable of going without. In a perfect world, I'd probably spend every day on a rock face and not bother with it at all.

My mom cancelled the internet so now I am forced to "borrow" my neighbors.:(

I went thru a massive withdrawl for about 3 days. That is before I found my neighbors unlocked Wi-Fi:p

I lasted 10 or so days without it because of ISP problems. Past the first few days of not being able to check emails it got okay. It was nice not being at the bleeding edge of news and current events.

As long as I have my guitar, or people to hang with, I could go forever.

Such youthful idealism! I would tend to agree with you...

...however...

...since I depend on web development for my income, I'd starve pretty darn quick. Then again I could always get a job doing something else.... I think. I hope...

I had a week without access in September when I went mountain biking in Austria.

It didn't bother me in the slightest as there was plenty of other fun to be had. I was pissed off when I got home and realised I had missed the announcement of the Led Zeppelin gig in London and the registration for the ticket lottery had closed :(

At home though I just can't stand it if there is a problem with my internet connection, even if it is down for just one evening. :o

Not as long since last April when I told the cable co to unhook and take a hike.

How long I could go is one thing. How long I'd be happy is another.

Probably a week. I'd have the radio on for news. I'd fix up my playlists.

I'd brush the cats.

I'd...
unlock the closet and bring out the router and get FIXED.

About 15 days for me. I was in the rural woods of south-central Colorado last summer. Only "electronic" device I had was my camera and also my flashlight. It felt great to forget about the internet, computers, cell phones, etc.

This summer I'm going camping again , but this time in northern Ecuador for 25 days. Can't wait.

Honestly with so much going through email these days, I must be on my computer at least twice a day (morning and evening) at the minimum.

I feel it's too great a resource to not have access to in this day and age.

Now, as for how long I could live without entertainment like MR? Maybe 12 hours. :p Seriously, a few years ago TV was my primary source of entertainment. Now it's all about the interwebs.

My addiction has gotten so bad I'm considering buying an iPhone. :o

I can survive a week of vacation without it easily. But now that I have my iPod Touch, I feel like I need to be connected everywhere I go.

The time it takes me to walk to the bathroom and back. Now seriously, it depends on the situation, I lasted 2 weeks without it over the summer, but then again I went on two week-long vacations, one with friends and one with my family and had a great time on both. But if you wanted me to live in an un-social environment without internet, then probably a day at most.

Longest I've gone without it was 101 days. I usually am without it 6 months or so out of the year, due to work. (Not straight, but total) It's not that bad. Usually while I am working, I can at least get on once every month or so, but not always.

I have saved a lot of money over the years ordering goods from online vendors. I can "survive" without the internet but trying to do research and communication without it will be a big hassle.

Two weeks and I didn't use my Mac either. Little point without the 'net.

I've gone on holiday for three weeks without it really. Besides the once a week 2 minute check to see if I had been accepted at the University. Other then that, I found it quite easy to do without the internet. But once I got home, I fell right back into the habit again. If I'm at home, I couldn't go for more then a day without it.

As others have said, it all depends on where I am and what I'm doing.

I can as long as I'm kept busy. If I have nothing to do then I can't live without it. Plus a lot of my work involves the internet.

Well, i think Internet becomes as necessary as mobile phone nowadays... :) But I think I can live without it for about 1 week. For example if I go somewhere on my holiday trip. But on my last trip I used to be on-line.. Maybe it depends on the type of trip. I'm sure that if I go somewhere at the sea, I won't need Internet. Nevertheless, we should recognize that Internet becomes a huge part of our lives and I guess only few of us can live without it...

At my home I can spend several hours without internet, even longer if this would be necessary. At my work I recieve files constantly so do not turn it off for a whole day. a couple of hours is all I can stand before I run out to a pc shop to get a new modem if this turns out to cause the failure.

What do you mean "without internet"? I don't understand that phrase. That's completely outside my realm of possible realities.

I saw an article about people staying online for days at a time and getting sick or dying. I thought to myself, man, they really need a computer in the kitchen.

Sometimes when my iPhone battery dies I cry. Is that normal?

For my work, about an hour.

For me personally, as much as I do use the web, I can do without it indefinitely if I had to.

I am great without the web. I just browse forums and read news, nothing major. Sometimes I just turn the router off for a day or two to avoid the net altogether.

The way my school is so web-integrated, I wouldn't make it a day.

Plus somebody has to get rid of the request of facebook. They pile up too much, and may explode!
