I just received a set of 4x2GB memory from OWC and have performed a series of benchmark speed tests of the 800mhz FB-Dimms vs older G4 PC-133 Dimms.

Products tested:
1. 4x512mb PC-133 Dimms
vs:
2. 2x4mb 800mhz FB-Dimms
3. Memory placement in risers: N/A

Tests:
1. Taped 4 FB-Dimms together with scotch tape
2. Taped 4 PC-133 Dimms together with scotch tape.
(be sure to wear non-static gloves while handling the dimms to avoid any static discharge)
3. Stand on a chair while holding one set of dimms in each hand (paying particular attention to height parity of both hands) and simultaneously drop the dimms at the same precise moment.
4. Using a stop watch, noted the elapsed time for each set of dimms to hit the floor. (It's recommended that another person hold the stopwatch due to the possible delay of starting and stopping the watch while dropping the dimms)

Test Results/Conclusions:
1. There does not appear to be a measurable difference in speed between the two sets of dimms; this was an unexpected result as the FB-Dimms have been described as significantly faster than olderand especially designed to be used in the new Mac Pro.
2. As the FB-Simms appear to be heavier (note that this is an observation only; accurate weight was not determined as bath scale turned out to be not registering the weights), they did, however, seem to bounce a bit higher off the oak floor when dropped.
3. Further tests are needed to validate the initial results; I plan to climb up on my garage roof and drop test the dimms to my driveway. I believe the longer drop will provide a better speed measurement accuracy and should demonstrate the speed superiority of the new FB-Dimms over the older G4 dimms.
4. When all tests are completed, I will update the results here and then place the FB-Dimms in my new Mac Pro w/8800GT video card which should arrive some time in the next century.
:D

Of course, I meant 800MHZ Dimms in the title, not GB.
Those will be available in my NEXT MAc.
