My computer is superfast, but often times pdfs will load very slowly and sometimes I will get the marble of death and Safari will quit.

Is that a bug or do I have a problem?

Are you talking about a PDF loaded from your local disk or one being accessed at a website?

If it's over the web, you should download the PDF to disk, and then check the time it takes to load it into Safari from the local disk copy. That way, you'll be able to distinguish between the latency from net access and the latency from loading the PDF into Safari.
