clean the screen with...?

I just use the stuff that came with my plasma screen on my MBP. I have no clue what the brand is, but you can buy screen cleaners for both LCDs and Plasma screens pretty much anywhere. I'm pretty sure places like Wal-Mart and Target have some.

Also some on here swear by iKlear. Just don't use something like Windex.
 
I tried one of those "non alcohol" cleaners and it was leaving streaks all over the place, so now I just use plain water on a napkin (paper towels seem a bit rough), and another one to dry it off - perfect every time 🙂

A cocktail of windex bleach and nitric acid for that clean feeling, scrubbed with steelwool...

my hand and the occasional licked thumb.

Not too many people I know view their screens productively in direct sunlight...🙂

I do the same thing with a damp paper towel. No scratches on my Matte PowerBook screen. Tissues are a definite no-no, unless you like getting rid of the fuzzies they leave behind. Learned that one the hard way...

I tried windex but it just doesn't work on Matte surfaces like it does a on a window. Streaky and useless. Water works best IMHO. 😉
 
Get a microfiber cloth -- they are really handy for cleaning all sorts of things, lenses etc -- and simply dampen that with a little water, and gently rub in circular motions.
 
36 grit 3M sandpaper with vegetable oil for a lubricant.

Rub furiously in large circular motion, then do a "W" pattern taking care to always maintain a wet edge. Anything left over, hookup the 2500PSI pressure washer, point at monitor with a zero degree tip and be sure it's plugged in and powered on as that helps you see better. If you dip the power cord in a bucket of cold water it helps clean the chord, too (again, only while the power is ON).

Solid advice from Bob Villa who takes care of his iMac following those procedures.

Oh, wait, that's for restoration of my old house, not cleaning my Mac screen. My bad.

did that to my car once, it didn't end up looking too hot 🙁

its amazing what WILL scratch if you're not careful....
 
I find a small dab of alcohol with water works well. Use something soft that doesn't have lint...like a dinner napkin or handkerchief.
 
i was using a flat head screw driver and tapping it on the end with a hammer.... wait... that is how i open paint cans... 🙄
 
I use a CleanDr Microfiber Wand on my MB's screen.

I'd never be brave enough to use paper products (paper towel, Kleenex, etc.) on an LCD... 😱. Don't they leave scratches?

I've been guilty of trying a moistened finger though. The resulting streaks are what drove me to the CleanDr wand 😛
 
On my non-glossy LCD and CRT screens I just use a damp (with water) cloth baby diaper (never been worn), then dry with another diaper (also never been worn).

I don't have a glossy LCD yet.
 
iKlear and a soft micro-fiber cloth is the best way to clean any electronics device, be it the casing or the display.
 
RadTech OmniCleanz is the best cleaning solution i've ever used. it leaves absolutely no mark on the screen like other cleans do. i highly recommend it.
