To all those people who

a) are replacing a Mac and aren't still currently stuck on Windows
b) have something vaguely "nice"

PITY ME! Dell Inspiron 5150, four and a half years old, EIGHT POUNDS!

http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/images/dell.png

A big, heavy, ugly old lump that unfortunately still works, so I'm waiting for the revised MBP to replace it.

Anyone better that for age / cruddiness?

Replacing an iBook G4 1.42 GHz and 768 MB of Ram. Not as bad as a friend of mine who's iBook is less than 1 GHz and 256 MB of Ram. Common MacBook Pro!

upgrading my MBP (top one in specs). I looked on apple's site and the benchmarks say that the current models are 73% faster than the 2.16, and i only have the 2.0! Looking forward to that kind of speed!

I suspect you know this, but Apple's benchmarks are notoriously cherry-picked to represent best-case scenarios, and rarely correspond to real-world gains that you would notice. Unless you have some software that you know is going to take advantage of the particular benchmarked improvement they've posted, don't expect anything near that kind of improvement. More noticeable gains are almost always felt by upgrading the hard drive speed, adding more ram, etc, than moving from one revision of a machine to the next.

A highly modded pentium4 3Ghz with 2.5gb of ram I first built in 2003.
Overclocked to 3.4
Watercooled
Painted chassis
2 line LCD display on the front of the case
Had a 5900 ultra at one time

Its been upgraded quite a few times, and then the disaster happened.

Around this time last year, one of my radiator fittings corroded and snapped off (completely my fault, water cooling is great, but I put together a frankenstein of a system) and poured an inert cooling fluid into my computer at 80 gallons per hour.

Since then I've had several major crashes, never lost any data (I fix pcs for a living, so this wasnt an issue), but came damn close, learned to backup constantly, lost two graphics cards, ghetto rigged a regular air cooling system, my usb ports dont work all the time, seems the cooling fluid caused corrosion everywhere, the side of my case is constantly off because things like to stop working so frequently it makes more sense to have it off, and doing intensive graphics work makes me fear for my life because I cant tell you how many days worth of hard labor I've lost when this thing just turned itself off.

Been waiting for a mbp since august, and I made sure to have the money by macworld. I did, but didnt get a mbp.

I need a new computer. Bad.

Getting a MBP to replace my Dell XPS M1210 from July 2006. The Dell will go to my brother for general use (desktop died a few months ago), playing Warcraft and WOW, etc. The GeForce Go 7400 card in it will do nicely.

Yeah, I know they are. But it makes me feel better about spending that kind of cash. :o

I am going to start doing a lot more work in Final Cut Studio and I think that'll be a pretty good boost in speed. Plus, from what i've seen, virtualization has a great boost in speed. At this point, running a VM really slows down my system, even with low resources allocated.

I may be sick of the size and ugliness, but I have been impressed with what a trusty machine it's been, especially considering what I paid. So I shouldn't be too mean to it :)

First generation MacBook here.
It's working fine despite the problems I've had with it (random shutdowns && logic board replacement / yellow top case and weird mousebutton (replaced) && melting power cord that sparked a bit (lucky me I was there at the moment) && dead fan (replaced it myself)).
It's a fine computer now, the screen is a bit dark and the battery dies after 30-45 minutes or so..
Despite the problems its the best computer I've ever owned, thanks to OS X.

Looking forward to a new MBP! I wish it won't make me crazy with hardware problems =)

Replacing my 4 year old Fujitsu Siemens ScaleoP

Originally, 3ghz P4, 512 ram, 128mb radeon gfx, 160gb hdd. ICK!

Currently, same processor, but had extra 512 ram added 2 years ago, on its second motherboard after last one died, 3rd graphics card, current 256mb radeon 9250 (lol) after other 2 burnt out.

Currently it won't recognise half my USB devices, randomly disables WirelessZeroConfig and the monitor (4 year old 17" LG tft) constantly flashes a lovely shade of pink, prob screwed VGA cable or GFX card again, meh.

I'm coming to the mac side!!! :D:apple:

Hmmm... I was using an LG LW60, but that died several months ago. Was going to buy a MBP then, but decided to wait.

I am currently using an old Acer (dont know what model) - 1.33GHz Celeron, 248MB, 20GB... and literally falling apart.

Cant wait to upgrade.

Just replacing my first-generation MacBook Pro... Gave me quite a headache at times. I remember when everybody was complaining about its name when it was announced.

I will be replacing my SR MacBook Pro, if it comes in time for me to still be within my 30 day window. I bought this machine on Jan 16 because I really needed a computer as my old one was gone. I figure if I use it for a month and no updates then it was worth purchasing because I couldn't go a whole month without a computer for work. And if it comes within the month then I return and swap.

I only have two gripes about my current MBP: 1. Is that it has the same processor as a MB - and I don't use my graphics card, so I am paying quite the premium for just a bigger screen. 2. My screen has the slight yellowing issue. I can't see it normally, but if I run the test on it, I can see it.

I hope the updated ones fix both of those issues (ala Penryn and better LED panels). Easy access to hard drive upgrades ala MacBooks would be a bonus, as I always upgrade my laptop's hard drive.

However, having purchased quite a few computers over the years, I know no machine comes perfect. Whether its Dells or Apple's. And when you trade one machine because of some niggle, the new one will also have some niggle too that you just hadn't realized. Such is life, unfortunately.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

I've got an 03 TiBook. Battery connector is shot (it sparks when connected so no battery anymore), firewire port is burnt out, powerport is on its last leg, it started with a gig of ram, but now something is wrong and it only registers 768mb, left hinge is gone, you have to pinch the drive to eject discs, running (or not) leopard, missing an arrow key, plus asthetic tragedy
