Hi,

I just booted up my machine right now and noticed there was some blank icon to the right of my Airport icon, left of my battery on my Finder bar [see attachment].

When I click this icon, I get the loading pinwheel on my cursor, and then the bar hangs a bit, then goes completely blank, and then all info seems to "reload" back onto the bar.

I tried seeing what happens in console when I do this, and I get these entries:
1/31/08 10:43:45 AM SystemUIServer[183] There is no output device, unloading
1/31/08 10:43:45 AM ReportCrash [182] Saved crash report to /Users/admin/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ SystemUIServer_2008_01-31_104327_admin.crash using uid: 501 gid: 20, euid: 501 egid 20

This happens each time I click this blank icon.

Any ideas?

Try Cmd-dragging it off the menubar. If it still crashes and that space doesn't go away, try repairing permissions. If not that, try uninstalling anything that you have that puts a menu extra in the menubar, and then deselecting the things in your System Preferences that do as well, until you figure out which icon is supposed to be there. You can then simply disable that if it's not needed, or you'll know what needs to be reinstalled.
