I would have gone to the Emeryville or Palo Alto store to pick up a copy, but apparently they don't sell software with educational discounts in the stores. Thats fine though, as I should be recieving my copy before Friday anyhow :D.

What about the option of
I can't. Im working at an apple reseller that is not doing anything for panther, but get out to late to go to one that is.

How about the option, "I'm under house arrest and can't leave"? Not that I am, but it would be frickin hilarious.

Anyone in the area interested in a MacRumors Panther and Pizza rollout? California Pizza is right by the Apple Store, and we can munch while we stand in line. I don't mean just people who are buying (I can't afford it until Saturday, but I still want to catch the crowd).

I'll probably be at the Clarendon (http://www.apple.com/retail/clarendon/) store (since Tysons is closed). That is, if I can find enough cash under the couch cushions to buy Panther! :D

I was thinking of doing the same thing... I'm still suspicious about this whole random-closing of two Apple Stores thing.
lol.
I have class that evening though, so won't be able to make my way down to Clarendon. If it had been Friday, I would've stopped by on my way home from work.
I got Jaguar a day before its "official" release by pre-ordering it online, so I'm hoping for the same thing with Panther. If I get it Wednesday, I'll be able to spend the evening installing it (M/W/F are work days with free evenings). If it comes Thursday, I probably won't get to it 'til Friday. I might as well not have Tuesdays or Thursdays anymore, it's classes ALL DAY (9am to 10pm, with 1 hour break for lunch, and a couple hours break in the afternoon that I use for emails, homework, and writing).
Only one more semester, only one more semester [repeating ad infinitum to maintain sanity].

Since the Mall of America is closed, I may try and make it to the Southdale store. They are only a couple of miles away from each other.

Clarendon Apple Store in Virginia....I'm hoping there will be a few special items for sale that you don't get anywhere else except the shop at Infinite Loop ;)

Well, the nearest Apple Store is over 2 hours from me and I had thought about attending with a few folks from my local Mac Users Group. But, then I decided I'd just have my own little panther party at home.
Order a pizza, rent the Pirates of Silicone Valley and just install away!

I'm thinking about attending the launch event at the Legacy Village store in Lyndhurst, OH (when it opens, which just happens to be on launch day). However, I am partially hamstrung by the fact that I have to attend college that day, but I MIGHT be able to go after class (since I usually finish by 8:00 PM anyway).

If I weren't at school during midterm week, I'd be attending, but as it stands, I have midterms until a little after 6 on Friday, so all I can hope for is a copy of Panther sitting in the mailroom for me to pick up by late afternoon between exams so I can have it installed as a nice reward for getting through the week. If not, it will be one long weekend.

I was thinking of going out to the Walnut Creek Apple store. A bigger store and easier parking than the Emeryville store

Yes, my wife and I are planning to attend the party Firday night. Can't wait, sounds like there might be some suprises.
Anyone else planning to be at the Chestnut Hill Mall near newton, MA? It would be great to meet fellow forum members. You can't miss me, I will be the tallest person.

Dan Are you referring to the California Pizza Kitchen in PA? I live a few miles away. I really want to go because I've never been to any Apple event. This time my issue is that I am supposed to go to a pumpkin carveing party with my buddy and a bunch of women. Hot women. What to do> :D

I would but I'm taking my wife out for dinner for her birthday. I don't think I should cancel for a geek-party! ;)

I was thinking Apple should have pizza or something. That would be really cool. It would really be a "party" then.

It’s an OS for god sake. I guess I don't "get" it. As big of a tech geek as I am I don't go out and stand in line for an OS. Back when Win95 came out I drove past CompUSA and watched the lines. LOL. People are insane.
Then again I was 3rd in a line of 200 for the PS2 at the state's largest Best Buy when it first came out. :p So I'm one to talk. ;) I guess the whole Apple cultural thing \ addiction is somewhat lost on me. I purchase a computer or an OS to get things done. I don’t worship it. I don’t have mental orgasms over it. It’s a tool to be used.

I spend a great deal of life on my computer, so an OS that changes the way I use my computer quite literally changes my life.

Hehe - my wife uses our Mac almost more than I do, but she could care less about what version of the OS it is.
Actually, the fast user switching will be the number one reason she probably will not mind me buying it.
After last year's Jaguar party at Willow Bend (which she also did not go to), and having stood in line for an hour or two, I don't think she'd enjoy it much.
(Actually, she'd probably go shopping while I stood in line and then she'd tell me, "Sorry, I spent your Panther money on these new shoes. Happy Birthday to me!")
Seriously though, she hates lines and gets no joy from computer stores. Not a good idea for a birthday "date" for her.

Well, I'm certifiably crazy... my little chant didn't work.
I've just noticed that Panther IS coming out on Friday -- lol, for some reason I thought the 24th was Thursday. No idea where I got that from.
But nobody seemed to notice ;-) so maybe I shouldn't have mentioned my little mistake!
Maybe I will stop by the Clarendon store... but more likely I'll be rushing home to see if Panther arrived (or rather, hopefully to beat FedEx to my apartment, or else I have to go pick it up at their center which is 20 minutes away).

Seems like a lot of you are going to be at the Clarendon store! I know I'll be there, I'm really excited.. this week seems to be dragging so much.
So, if any of you see me in line (I'll have on my black apple shirt and my iPod) feel free to say hello!!
I'm such a dorkus maximus too... this evening, on my subway going home there was someone w/ a Macworld zine and I didn't even say hello. Being shy sucks. I'll try to get over it Friday night though, it'd be awesome to meet some other people in the area as hung up as me! :)

I'm still not sure whether to go to the Apple event or my high school's homecoming football game. Both at the same time... bummer.
But if I do decide to go I'll be at the grand opening of the UTC store. Though I might just go check out the store the next day to beat the crowds.

I thought that the Jaguar Release was exciting, so that is why I'm looking forward to the Panther Release. Guess that I'm lucky, my wife is just as excited as me about the Panther Release party. She has the day off, so that her work won't interfere.

It's approaching 1000 votes for "No, I don't live near an event location". OK, Apple, that's your cue to open 1000 new stores.
I ordered Panther online so I can be sure to get it Friday evening. That way I can be the first on my block to... trumpet fanfare... wait around for a couple of days to see what happens when other people try installing it!
I'm supposed to entertain an out-of-town guest Friday. He uses both PCs and Macs, but only for ("ewwwwww") practical stuff. He's not Apple-crazy like some of us. Is a big line at an Apple store a good place to take a non-fanatic? Hmmm... Maybe it'll get him hooked!

I certainly hope that you will have success with coverting your friend Doctor Q. It sounds like you are going to ahve an enjoyable evening. My wife has our Friday evening all planned out. Dinner at "The Cheesecake Factory." We will eat our cake while in line.
