Quick question regarding Aluminum Keyboard USB 2.0 Capabilities?

I just got one of these new keyboards - gorgeous, much better than the wireless version since it's full. Quick question though -- in order to use the USB 2.0 capabilities, must I use the USB extension cable that came with the keyboard, or can I use an ancient one that I got with my G5?

Another words, is USB 2.0 independent of the extension cable?

All G5s used USB 2.0 anyway, so it's a moot point, but insofar as I'm aware the cables matter little—it's the ports and devices themselves that matter.
