It would seem silly to put the G4 in the iBook even though the G3 is a five or more year old chip, since the Powerbook’s are still only using the G4. I wouldn't expect G4 iBooks until the first of the G5 PowerBooks arrive. When that'll be your guess is as good as mine.
Silly though it may seem it has happend (thank god) now no mre G3's:)

i would guess a 1.25 emac and 1 gig g3 ibook but they could go g4 ibook with slower bus and video chipset.

i think it's perfectly possible. there have been ibooks and powerbooks running on the same generation chip in the past (at different clock speeds)... i think that the iBook sales will really suffer if they're seen to lag two whole generations behind the top of the line.
my money is on G4 ibooks today. or some very significant change to the ibook design... something that's reformulating it completely.

Now it's official!
According to the German Apple Store, 3 new iBooks, all G4 (800-1000 Mhz), the largest 14" with 60GB, 256MB, 2xUSB2, FW400, ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 32MB, but still 1024x768 resolution
Lucky that I didn't buy a PB but a G5 last month, now my 1st generation iBook will get a place in the vitrine!
Sounds good to me :-)

Thankgod, now no Apple product ships without at lest a combodrive. The CD-ROM models were really long in the tooth.

To cut cost no doubt. Although one does have to wonder how much more expensive the Combo drives are.
