i am still hoping for tomorrow just because i really need this laptop. the 10.5.2 update is the one that developers have had since last week which means that they would have had time to preload the new MBP's and test them, hopefully.

They could give me the MacBook Pro with 10.5.1 for all I care, as long as they come out.
I have my doubts about tomorrow though.

That's assuming that when they released the last developers version of 10.5.2, they were confident enough in it to install it on the new MBP's without feedback from the developers. Why would they release it to just developers if they were confident enough in it to install on a batch of new machines? Just to get a headstart on the bugs?
That might very well be true, and I'm hoping it is as I'm sitting on my hands patiently waiting to upgrade my Powerbook G4, 1.67 to a new MacBook Pro, and the minute I just say screw it and buy a current one is the day before they release the new ones. We'll see.

Why is everyone so hung up on the new MBPs being preloaded with 10.5.2. when it is easily downloaded as an update? Wasn't it necessary for some early aluminum iMac buyers to get a separate Leopard install disc at the store at the time of purchase?
My feeling is that tomorrow is the logical date regardless of the update. That will give a nice 2 week window before the SDK announcement.
Because 10.5.2 had the resources that specify three new laptop models. 10.5.1 doesn't have this. Therefore its logical to assume 10.5.2 is required for these new MBPs. If we look to the past, when an OSX states new machines, after the arrival of the OSX point release, sure enough, those machines have soon followed.

So can you take one for the team and order one today? :D.
I wish they would just release the damn thing soon, all this waiting is getting out of control.

So if tomorrow is the day, historically speaking when will the store go down? Tonight at midnight california time? Tomorrow morning at 9 am? After some sort of announcement? At what point during the day do we say "oh well, I guess not today..."

The pink iPod nano, the upgraded iPhone and the upgraded iPod touch were found in the German store hours later and and the store hasn't been down. Just the US Store was down. So I suggest, if there will be a new MBP, the other stores will get it, too. So don't worry and hope for a new MBP in the US Store!

Maybe it doesn't make much sense anymore to release new MBPs for Apple. Maybe they want to be the first with a redesign when Intel releases Montevina in a couple of months.

It has been long enough since the last release that they are overdue for a new one. At WWDC '09 there will prob. be a MBP with Montevina. That is my guess. We will find out in the next few weeks!!!

We've gone through this 9 trillion times in these threads. There's nothing about Intel's next platform that has anything to do with the Macbook Pro. For that matter, Apple has never even released a laptop that qualifies as a "Centrino".

Right, but let's be honest.... I don't think that Centrino platform is really as rigid as Intel makes it out to be. I've seen Centrino labels stuck on laptops that didn't technically qualify (either because they used non-Intel wireless, or dedicated graphics, etc.). And either way, even laptops that don't technically qualify are still often referred to as "Santa Rosa" laptops, including manufacturers who use the name as part of the designation (i.e. the S in the Asus G1S signifying Santa Rosa).
Either way, I don't see why you think Intel's next Montevina platform will have NOTHING to do with the MacBook Pro. Apple is still likely to use the new chipset for the motherboard, etc. (just as they have used many components of the Santa Rosa platform).
And there's still nothing to say that Apple might not finally adopt some other options from it, like
Honestly, how could one say it has NOTHING to do with the MacBook Pro? Clearly at least some aspects of it will make their way into it, unless you actually believe Apple's going to not use it at all.

Other than a faster front side bus, there's nothing new there for the Macbook Pro. There's no reason they need to connect an update to Intel's update.

No, but at the same time, it's some sort of reason. I think it is logical that Apple would tie a more significant MBP update (i.e. more than just a processor change) to a platform update.
The main thing is to make sure there is at least SOME internal difference in the hardware as well.
Although I agree that Apple doesn't have to wait for a platform update to update the external design, at the same time, I have a hard time imagining them just doing an external update with the same hardware from the previous MBP.

Umm, right, exactly. That's my whole point. An external MBP chassis/etc. update is going to be paired with an internal hardware update; so it's going to either be with the Penryn updates (soon), or with the Montevina updates. They aren't likely to just do an external update without internal updates as well (i.e. like how they waited for the Santa Rosa-based MBP update to also introduce the LED-backlit screens to the MBP).

I for one think the new keyboards on MBA are awesome. IMHO the contrast between the silver and black looks really slick and I've always been a fan of the macbook style keyboards over the current MBP keys which they have had for a long time. I may be close to alone here but I think a restyled keyboard would be perfect. (As would a magnetic latch; that stupid button is infuriating)

I agree... As a happy MBP and MBA owner, I am very happy with the MBA keyboard and would love to see it incorporated in the MBP. I was quite hesitant at first, as i also loved my MBP keyboard, but after using both, I am in favor of the MBA keyboard. The feel is great, the black color is great, ad the backlighting off of the black keys is truly awesome.

No it isn't. It's exactly what happens EVERY time a new product appears on the Store. US store goes down, appears again a few hours later with new somethings in it, then later on the other international stores follow the US store's lead.

Dear Mr. Jobs,
While I realize you don't have time to hear from the likes of me, I would like to say, WHAT THE @%#!$ IS THE HOLD UP OVER THERE???
Collectively we've rumored, we've laughed, we've speculated, we've mocked-up, we've fought and we've waited!
While we realize that you've provided us with a kick ass OS and some additionally kick ass hardware to run it on. And we know all that takes a lot of effort, more so because you've given us equally kick ass products such as our ever color changing iPods and awesome iPhones. But why, why do you make us wait so long?
Of course we know you won't give us little bits of information, for fear that once the buying consumer hears new products are on the way, your current stock would suddenly sit and gather dust. But come on, you can tell us. We promise not to tell anyone else, we swear we won't!
Please... please please please give us something new and soon!

Rather funny, the reason I'm here is because of Apple. I went to the store today and as usual was ambushed at the door as-if I was an old lady crossing the street. Also as expected I said, "No thank you." to the girl and then walked over to the guy and asked for his help.
I asked to see the Macbook Pro because recently my Powerbook died and didn't want to pay the repair costs. He agreed, he showed me the Macbook Pro. I asked him a few standard questions about software, the camera, keyboard, and so forth. Surprisingly he then looked around and said, "I would wait though." I asked, "Why?" He replied saying there was rumors and plans to release an updated Macbook Pro in the future. He basically told me NOT to buy a Macbook Pro at this time.
I think when Apple literally tells an unknowing customer willing to drop $2700 dollars that very day NOT to purchase this laptop is a tell-tale sign.

Just to be clear, you shouldn't read anything into that.
Apple Store employees know as much, not anything more, than we do about new products.
He was telling you to wait most likely because he knows and reads the same things we read here; he knows that it's very likely an MBP update (a minor one, but an update nonetheless) is coming pretty soon, and was recommending that you wait.
This was based on the same rumors and info you'll find here though; it wasn't based on secret knowledge that Apple shares with Apple Store employees.

You can call me a sexist if you like, but from my personal experience in our Apple store the girl salespeople don't know anything. Anytime I ask a question their answer if very vague or completely wrong. Plus, this lady was about 60. So I knew she wasn't going to know anything about Photoshop and wasn't easy on the eyes.
So I went to the guy, not because he had a big package or anything. Simply because I believe he was going to know more. He did. He was also a part-time Graphic Designer and showed me his work, told me features about the Macbook Pro compared to other models.
Don't get me wrong, if the girl who approached me was mid-twenties, good looking, and actually knew what she was talking about I would of happily spoke with her.

Everyone go look for a fortune teller...
See what he/she will predict the date of the release of MBP...
Then we can share all the dates together
Maybe the fortune teller himself is one of the victim of the MBP wait...

Little did you know but that 'not so easy on the eye' woman was asked by Apple to test the new MBP last week, your loss.

Also do Apple workers get commission? I mean honestly can anyone share my annoyance of Apple workers in the store? I mean the minute I even look in the direction of the store I'm bombarded, It makes me want to avoid the store all together. I mean even when I say, "No thanks." to one person, seconds later another approaches me and begins an ongoing cycle.

I have had the same experience about 50% of the time I go there. Sometimes I ask a question, but they rarely know the answer,
