Well...I have an old iBook G3 Clamshell (466MHz SE Edition) and I decided to take it apart. The hard drive was busted from the start.

Now, this thing was a pain to take apart...It was pretty hard, but I worked slowly and finally got everything off.

The first thing I noticed was the IBM Processor. Now, it did not have any PowerPC G3 logoing on it at all...just said IBM. Next to that I think was the ATI Card (black). And that was basically it. Different inside from the other Clamshells I have seen.

Since the hard drive was busted, I wanted to see what is inside a 10GB IBM Travelstar HD. Well...it was just what I thought!

Here are some pics:

Ohh...what OS should I run on this? I am afraid Tiger would run pretty slow on this. I plan on getting a 5400RPM HD and probably a stick of 256MB RAM. G3 is pretty slow (especially the 466MHz).

how much stock ram does this one have? 64mb or did they come with 128mb stock? i am running tiger 10.4.11 on my ibook g3 600 and runs ok with just 384mb. i just mainly use it for forums and email. few other things here and there like ebay and youtube. so at least a 256mb stick but more preferably stick a 512mb in there if you can find one for under $50.

i did the same thing with my dead 30gb ipod. i have a video around with it hooked up and working without the cover on.

here's my 30gb ipod dissected :D

Panther, it ran well on my Blueberry iBook.
A very solid machine, enjoy it! :apple:
