Nearest one is in Birmingham, about 1 hour away by train. I'd rather order online. Played with the demo iPhone at the local O2 store though.

It's about a 35 minute drive for me. I'd say that's about the right distance -- minimizes the urge for an impulse purchase!

True point! Whilst I want an Apple Store in Belfast City Center, its just to handy for me to get to..... Everytime I got paid, the card would be comin out!

Cool - tell me, are they good? Are they different from walking into PC World. Obvieously its all Apple stuff, but I mean the staff, are they nice and pleasent, informative... do they make you feel bad for not purchasing or are they thier solely to give retail advise?

AppleStore is very different from PC world!!! It's much more fun to go there and play with all the stuff. And no, staff won't make you feel bad if you're not buying the thing after they've been talking to you! And why should you feel bad? You're the customer (their boss)!!

I'm in the suburbs of NYC so I have all of NYC's apple stores 25 minutes south and another one 15 minutes north at the mall. ;)
It's good to have like 6 apple stores in a 30 mile radius!

The impression I am getting from the people voting and leaving comments in the UK is that Apple are building alot more Apple Stores... would I be right?

Sadly the nearest Apple store is an hour and a half from my home (with no traffic, I am sure with traffic it may get over 2 hours). I am going to be going for the first time on Wednesday to get my iPhone taken care of (bottom half of the screen is not responding to touch). While I hate the drive, even if it isn't replaced and I have to wait for it to be sent off for repair I will have a chance to see the Apple store.
Now this isn't to say my city doesn't need one, we have three colleges in the area one of which is very well known for it's graphic arts, advertising, and video technology programs. There is no doubt Apple could make profits in this area. Apple is changing the retail experience and getting converts on a daily basis. One step into an Apple store and I can't imagine why the majority of people wouldn't make the switch. Or at least enough of the people to make the Apple store worthwhile.

I'm fortunate enough to have to.....
One is 35 minutes away, the other is 45 minutes away.
The 35 minute store is in Maryland and has a 6% Sales Tax.
The 45 minute store is on Delaware and has a 0% Sales Tax.
If I ever need a repair, I go to the 35 minute store, to purchase I go to the 45 minute store! :)
Now if I was a gambling man, I could stop off at a Delaware race track and wager the 6% I saved from not paying Sales Tax! :D

15 minute train journey and I am at Apple's Regent Street flapship store, or 35 minute drive and I am at the Lakeside Apple store or a quick 4 minute trip over the Dartford bridge and I am at the Bluewater Apple store. Or I can take a 40 minute drive and be at the Brent cross store. So I am ok..

Ouch. Actually I don't think we do either, we just have an authorized reseller/fixer place in Cardiff. Which is miles away.

come on guys/gals. we have infinitely more Apple Stores here in the UK than only a few years ago. Where have all the old timers gone? I for one came to see the looonnnng queue when the London store opened - but did not bother to join in.
Have also spent my hard earned cash in Las Vegas, New York, Brent Cross, Toronto and San Fran.
just how many apple stores are there in the UK now? they are even appearing in provincial town now like (insert town name to cause offense).
Does anybody actually know why thier are so few Apple Stores in the UK?
Small customer base. Probably.
In Northern Ireland there is probably no financial sense in building one, because we are such a small country, if they put one here it would probably be in Dublin.

There is on no where near me and I have never set foot in one because of this. However in less than two weeks time I will be in Orlando and visit an apple store there just for the heck of it!

Yes, and I refuse to do business with them because the Apple retail policies are often nonsensical and sometimes offensive. Fortunately, I have a third-party Apple-certified retailer & service center even closer to home than the Apple store.

I know for a fact that there are two :apple: Stores North of where I live. They are about 30-40 minutes apart from me.
There is also one south of me, but it takes an hour to get there.

I have the Oakbrook store 5 minutes away, the Woodfield store 15 minutes away, the Northbrook store 35 minutes away, the Skokie store 40 minutes away, the Deer Park store 45 minutes away, the Orland Park store 45 minutes away, and I'm in downtown Chicago daily for classes.
At any time I am no more than an hour away from an Apple store. It's great!
p.s. no triangulating my home base

I voted "yes" but the closest one I know about is 120 miles away in St Louis. I guess it all depends on how you define "near." :D
When you live out in the sticks your definition of "near" is a bit more distant than that of the city dwellers. I'm just happy that I'm not even more rural than I am. There are some places in central Kansas, Texas and Montana that would consider 120 miles "very close." :)

Surprising news but very good news.
About 10-15 years ago, the majority of computers in Northern Irish schools were Macs. That's nowhere near the case now, but Apple obviously think that NI is fertile ground for a store.
I can understand why they located it in NI rather than Dublin, as the setup costs for "another UK store" are less than one in Dublin would be, but I'm surprised that it isn't nearer the border to benefit from the 'Mexicans':D. I suppose there isn't a suitable place for it - Apple seems to be very careful about where it places a store. The ones I've been too - Bullring in Birmingham and the Arndale and Trafford Centres in Manchester are all in ultra-modern settings.
