I have seen many a thread, namely those from Europe where people complain at how much more apple stuff is than the US when converted from dollars
This needs to stop honestly. Part of the reason is how governments are set up as well as the fact that apple is a us based company
you dont here us americans complaining about insane health care prices while the majority of europe gets it for free or greatly reduced. where do people think that reduction comes from...namely taxes on goods.
ugh social programs do cost the government a lot of money. so while you guys in europe enjoy your discount health care as well as a max 35 hr work week such as france, you shouldnt be complaining about americans getting cheaper goods as we dont have cheap health care (which makes goods more expensive) and some of us work 90-100hrs a week lol. we also dont have unemployment assistance for the most part if you happen to get laid off as some european countries do...
dont get me started on the cost to go to university where here in the states, 10-15k a year is considered a bargin. ive heard some european countries have free schooling. talk about fair...
ok rant over lol
if im wrong enlighten me please as i may have exposed my ignorance but those are some facts i have come across over the years lol

Uh, Americans complain about health care A LOT. Not here, why? It's off topic on a COMPUTER FORUM. The irony of this is that YOU JUST BITCHED ABOUT HEALTHCARE AFTER STATING WE DON'T!.
I'm an American and precisely NONE of your points are valid.
You can get free schooling in america too, it's called a scholarship.

Don't think that the high UK prices are due solely to tax - without it we still get ripped off, by many companies, especially Adobe.
UK workers on average work longer hours than US workers, so that part of your reasoning is flawed.
Most Universities are quite expensive. While not the same as in the US, don't think we get off incredibly lightly.

don't British prices include VAT ... ? .. I don't know if that taken into consideration still makes the products over priced though...

im just saying we dont complain about it here on the forums where i constantly see people complain about price differences. im just trying to make people aware that we arent really all that ahead by having cheaper prices....
do i complain outside of these...yea
lol i have yet to see ALL students have scholarships and if they do, cover the cost of school 100%. free whatever. i would know as i have to pay for school
as far as my pts not being valid, do you find them to be false? do europeans not get free/way discounted health care? they ARE valid points when trying to explain that the price differences shouldnt be the same between countries due to how the countries are governed....

well my example on work weeks was france as thats the one i know about.
i just know that a lot of salaried professions are not just 40hrs/wk here
for example i was just reading this thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=4900830#post4900830
post 4 is exactly what im talking about, which ironically is posted by the same member who posted below this post haha

UK VAT is 17.5%
In the US the 16GB iPhone is $499 = £252 = £296.50 including VAT @17.5%.
In the UK the 16GB iPhone is £329, so even taking VAT into consideration the prices are high.

Ok, how about this, in the US we get cheaper prices. In Europe you don't have to live surrounded by all the stupid f****** American people. And you can still come to visit some times and buy stuff at our prices to take them home.

Don't forget import taxes. Also the goods come from China and it's cheaper to ship to the U.S. To then go further to Europe also costs more $$. There's also the costs of penetrating foreign markets and navigating through their bureaucracies, etc. Those flat costs are probably spread across their products as well.
Let's no forget that products sold here may require different parts - keyboard layouts, power adapters, etc. Also EU has stricter environmental rules and certain products aren't even sold here.

You sound like an ignorant high school student. The fact of the matter is, Apple is an American company and there are costs of doing businesses overseas and VAT does account for a good amount of the price difference.
As for your rants about cheap this and that in Europe. Go live there and you'll find that it might not be cheap, relative to how much you make.
Besides, you pay about 30% income tax and expect to get cheaper healthcare and cheaper education? Get real.
Last I checked, the U.S. has unemployment benefits, just not as much as Europe.

um isnt this what i have stated?? i said europe was more expensive due to social programs that are enacted.....which means goods must have higher taxes.
i also stated goods are cheaper here because apple is us based..
i also said reason things are cheaper here is because we dont have universal health care, post hs edu, etc. however what we as americans have to compromise for cheaper goods is not having these universal programs
um i also said we dont have unemployment benefits for the most part....esp compared to most european countries. while we do have some, its not near as nice as what other countries help out with
to call me ignorant while saying the same things as me is kind of amusing. learn to read my posts before you reply and say the exact same things as i and then proceed to call me an ignorant hs student..

This thread doesn't seem to be eliciting too much in the way of healthy or relevant discussion without further generating into a argue-thread. Or agro-thread. Meh, either one.
So I think we'll end it here.
