Problems with .dmgs

so i downloaded various programs to install on my first mac ever ( macbook pro 2.4) and when i go to mount the images it says "the follow disk images failed to mount" NAME.dmg Reason: unrecognized"



can anyone help me with this (first time mac user)

Possibly they are bad dmgs, or were corrupted on downloading. try downloading again. Also, posting links to the dmgs may help.

Hey there. I am not very technically savvy but have a brand new 2.4Ghz IMAC with Leopard. I have downloaded a DMG which is over 1GB from a torrent site. I have tried to open it and am getting an "unrecognised" message. I have burnt this file to a DVD and hope to try opening it on another mac soon. Has anyone found any ways i may be able to open/fix this file? it could take me a few more weeks to get hold of a new DMG as my download speed is very slow - and yet it may be damaged too! Thanks :o
