Spotlight and Time Machine

Hi,

I use an external hard drive as TM for my mac. And I set spotlight NOT to index Time Machine in Preference.

However, every time I start Spotlight, the TM drive is evoked too. Why?

Another annoying problem is, since I also back up Application in Time Machine, if I open a item by using 'Open With...', I can see all versions of a single application, for example, Quick Time, and Quick Time 7.4.1, Quick Time 7.4.2, etc. Is there anyone to avoid this?
