For me, it's the notebook I'm on now. ThinkPad T60.
What about you guys?
And, on a side note, I joined here in October to post in the setups thread. I didn't come back until December. Now, I'm finally a 6502!!! Yay!!!

Probably one of the Dell XPS notebooks. I'm beginning to like Dell more and more every day actually.

Definitely a Thinkpad. Nothing else comes close.
Just ordered a few of them for a few people where I moonlight as an admin. Considering getting one for myself after using them for a bit. Very solid, and the keyboard is heavenly.

A carbon fiber Viao, or a thinkpad.

I've used an HP laptop everyday for the last 6 months, and its been great. Before this one, I had an old HP laptop that lasted me for 3 1/2 years. So, I would choose HP.

I couldn't get myself to buy a Dell ever, but if I were to buy a PC laptop I'd get a Sony.

Definitely a Vaio or a thinkpad. I'm going into college and portability is key! HP laptops are also quite reliable and they're slowly improving their "designer" look too.

That's what I like to read!!! Teh keyboards on the T43 and earlier are better than those on the T/R60 or higher. Actually, my T60 seems flimsier than my T41 was. Curse you lenovo!

Dell XPS are very nice. The Sony ones are nice also but cost too much for what they offer :)

It's the closest thing to my MacBook, which is the best system for me. ;)

I would use a HP too, but Dell is a good brand too (they're the only PC brands I've had experience with :D).
Then again, I wouldn't use a PC laptop in the first place ;).

I have had a ThinkPad for 8 years now, it is unbreakable. Don't know about the new ones though (after Lenovo).

I do. I bought HP, but Dell would also do.
I'd avoid Sony like the plague as they're desperately unreliable (I've seen more faulty Sony Vaio laptops than all the other brands put together).

In Summer 2007 I was choosing my first Laptop. I was choosing between Toshiba and HP. I almost decided to get HP Pavilion 2127 but finally I purchased Toshiba Satellite M100-222.
HP has one obvious advantage over Toshiba - its design. It looks more smart than Toshiba. Nice design, perfect frame. Toshiba was more charged for that money. I've bought Toshiba for about 1000 euros while HP cost a little bit more expensive.
My Toshiba has Intel Core 2 Duo 2100, 1 gig RAM, 80 Gb HDD, ATI Radeon X1400. I like how it sounds. It has Harman Cordon speakers. This label is installed on Range Rover autos.
My choice is Toshiba! :)

Definitely a thinkpad. I have a T60 and an x60s. AND, you're not limited to running windows. I have each machine dual booting with Windows xp and a certain unix-based OS that I think most here are familiar with.

Do you find the T60's keyboard to be mushier than the T40 series? I'm on it now and while it's not bad, it feels way different.

Probably an HP or Dell computer. I used to own a Dell and it was pretty decent, in fact my mother has it now. I have never owned an HP computer but some of my friends own them and they're pretty satisfied. Besides that, I really like HP's other offerings (mainly monitors and printers) so I would probably give their computers a chance.
But thankfully I don't have to worry about any of that. I have a Mac and I don't intend to go back. ;)

I'm with you on that one. I don't like any of the dells I've had to work with in the past. There have been rumours where I work about switching to windows. I sure hope not. But if I have to buy one it will be cheap. If they are paying for it I'll let them spend more. :)

That is quite a nice machine there, I wonder what the specs are?
My dad has used Toshiba and Sony VAIO exclusively since about 1993. I can understand the Sony part, but his Toshiba Qosmio G25 is a friggin' POS. Go google it.

The toshiba my dad uses is horrible. The power cord has broken, the trackpad is discolored, the trackpad button is stuck down, the case is cracked in several places, the rubber feet have all fallen off. He's had it for about a year i think.

I use an Eee PC with Windows and it works awesome for my needs.
If I were forced to use Windows, I guess I would buy a MacBook Air and put Windows on that. Normally I wouldn't spend that much on a laptop, but maybe the great design of the Air (finally saw one today: wow) could make up for some of the hurt of using Windows.
But then I would always feel like I need to apologize to the Air for what I did to it.
Sorry, I just can't take this thread seriously. I generally look to avoid situations where I "have to use a PC laptop." They're usually pretty unenjoyable. :p

If I had a choice... I would get another IBM/Lenovo. They're fugly, but they're the best PC laptop I've ever used.

After using a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 for a month or so at work, I'd have to go with that. It is a solid machine.

Sony or Lenovo, depending on who had the best stuff at the time.
Probably lean towards Sony.
If IBM did the Thinkpad still it would be that without a doubt. I have heard mixed reviews on the Lenovo Thinkpads.
Sony's industrial design is dead nice and they have a lot of expertise in hardware. I have found their products (HiFis and Televisions) to be very reliable. They are my second favourite company in tech, behind Apple.
I would run Solaris 10 over Ubuntu. Dual booting with Vista Business.
Thankfully I don't have to worry about this. MacBook (Black) all the way!

Definitely a Lenovo.
My notebook before my PowerBook G4 was a Vaio, and it was the biggest piece of ***** I've ever owned. It had more hardware issues than any piece of electronics I've ever owned. I believe the HDD failed as now if I try to power it up it just cycles the loading XP boot screen endlessly...sad way to spend it's eternity.

Either an IBM or a Sony. Probably an IBM, I wouldn't want to have to deal with Sony software or service.

I have an IBM Thinkpad X31 (love the 12" formfactor - miss the 12" PB)
I also use a Compaq Presario V2000 - great cheap laptop. Has a 14" WS display - nice and compact.
I like the HP/Compaqs as the best value. IBM's last a long, long time...

HP, but from the business line, not the consumer line... I find that the business ones look better, and feel more sturdy...
If not HP, then definitely a Thinkpad. I have an old one from the IBM era that is still chugging along... built like a tank.

Depending on what it was to be used for...
EEE PC: Size matters not, but these laptops are pretty handy.
Lenovo: The standard in PC notebooks. Can't beat 'em.
Toughbook: In case I want to woodwork with my laptop. While it's running.

My Macbook booted into XP is by far the most tolerable Windows experience I've ever had, no reason to buy another brand just to run Windows anymore.
