The question and options don't make sense. What kind of idiot would read the question and then answer "not interested"? The question clearly points out that if you were buying one, what would you get. I'm not interested in the offerings at this time, but if I was buying one, I'd opt for the 16GB.
On the other hand, I'm surprised "Would buy a 4GB or 8GB from an upgrader" isn't an option.

I think "no interest" is a fair option. It's not so much that I care about the difference between 8 GB and 16 GB, it's that I'm not willing to pay AT&T's outrageous rates for service.

That's not what nbs2 is saying.
They are saying that the poll says:
"If you were to buy an iPhone today, which model would you get?"
It's like saying:
"What burger will you buy in Burger King today?"
With an option to get pizza from Pizza Hut.
The poll asks what iPhone model you'd buy, yet offers the option to not get one which does not make sense.

32GB for $599 please!
Apple won't sell me one though. Luckily, I'm awaiting iPhone 2, so by then I may get my wish.

Actually, I don't think I would buy one. I would IF it had a built in GPS module. If apple doesn't see the merit in cramming a SirfStarIII chip in an iPhone, I'll probably end up with a nuvifone from Garmin later this year.

Funny, when I had T-Mobile before I switched to AT&T so that I could get an iPhone, I had a blackberry pearl... and was paying $10-$15 more each month just for the same amount of minutes and the "unlimited blackberry internet" package.
Not trying to troll or anything, I just think it's funny when people talk about "outrageous rates" for a cell phone. I mean, what's the worst you're paying a month? $100? The average american spends that much on coffee each month. o_O
Edit: To be on topic, if I were buying my first iPhone today, I would buy the 16GB iPhone, considering I've already spent $599 on an 8GB one... heh. As for now, I'll wait to see what the next few revisions bring. A little more space is nice, but not enough to make me upgrade just yet.

I think its a pretty good question lol. I voted 16.
I switched to AT&T from Sprint and although I wish the service was better on AT&T, I'm still paying about the same amount that I used to.

My 8GB Touch has been serving me just fine, so I guess I'd go 8GB on the iPhone as well. The extra memory is just overkill for me...

Great for Apple to keep on upgrading and reducing prices. I have no problem with having paid higher prices for first units. I remember have paid USD8k for a "mobile" phone weighing 10 kilos with 2 hours talking time. Battery was 3 kilos.

My cell phone's function is to make phone calls and to wake me up in the morning as an alarm clock. I have no interest in an iPhone. It is a neat little gadget but I would rather save the money.

 AT&T's outrageous rates? I thought they were very competitive when I did my research before buying an iPhone. The plan I needed was about the same or cheaper than other smart phone options. A Blackberry with all the service the iPhone has was actually about $20 more per-month.

I don't want to start a fight over features, but I've found that when in my car, a real GPS is nice... one with a big screen makes it even better. I could not imagine trying to look at a cell phone while driving... even the iPhone with it's large screen is too small.
For walking around and knowing where I'm at... I love the "Find me" feature on the iPhone through Google Maps. It works great and allows me to find myself quickly. Personally... it's the internet features of the iPhone that make it awesome. I've had other smart phones in the past and the iPhone (even with it's limits) is so much better by a mile.
So the moral to my point... sometimes it nice to have the appropriate tool for the appropriate job.

That's what I was thinking, 32GB in the second generation would be just what I'm after, and of course, no contract, legally, not cracked.
Then my sister can have my iPod touch, as she keeps hinting.

I voted for the 16 GB but :
- € 599.- is way to much for ANY phone in Europe .( $ 867.- ) take that !!!
So i will wait till the price goes down and until then my Touch 16Gb is working wonderful :D

The 16GB one of coarse. More space is always better, and I bought my iPhone on launch so I paid $600 for it so it would actually be paying less for the 16GB than I did when i originally bought the 8GB.

Something tells me Verizon (or any CDMA network) will never be "supported"... which is probably a good thing, considering that Verizon always cripples their phones with that horrible red, black and SLOW interface nonsense

More than anything I'd agree it's a matter of preference. No company will be able to please everyone. :)
As to GPS, I personally prefer to carry less, and do more with it. A phone/GPS is just more convenient. I almost always carry my cell, and I can almost always use GPS (I have the worst sense of direction). Basically, I want an electronic version of a multitool, something I'm likely to have on me, and can rely on when I need it.

If I were buying an iPhone today, AT&T would have improved their service where I am so that I could get a reliable signal. The iPhone would have working copy & paste. Third party apps would be available. Bluetooth keyboards would be supported.
IF that were the situation, I'd get the largest available.

All I hear is iPhone, iPhone, iPhone! Well, what if I don't have AT&T or don't care to switch from Verizon Wireless to AT&T? As long as Apple limits the iPhone to just AT&T, Apple can kiss my $%^& with their iPhone! You should feel the same way!

Hahaha... a bluetooth keyboard? Why? That just sounds... absurd, no offense... but it's a phone, why on earth would you want to carry around a keyboard with it?

Not really... with the way Verizon cripples their phones with their horrid (and ugly) red and black interface, there's no way I'd go for a Verizon iphone. Keep in mind, Apple went to Verizon before AT&T, and Verizon laughed in their faces because Apple wanted to keep complete control over the interface. Don't be upset at Apple, be upset at Verizon :P

Why would I need a Bluetooth keyboard? To write with! If I can have one with my Palm T5, which does everything the iPhone does (except be a phone--and camera, now that Kodak doesn't support their attachment anymore) why not? I admit the Palm does internet and music and video _badly_ but it does them. And I can write and edit on it. I don't want a phone--I want a pocket computer.

I said 8gigs. There is really no need for 16 as your battery would run out before you could use all that for movies or music. Maybe if the SDK brings some great(and large) applications I could see getting more space.
But I am perfectly happy with my 8 gig and don't think I'll need more than that.

I just think I would point and laugh at anyone at a coffee shop who pulled out their iphone with their "cute little stand", and a keyboard to type on it with... haha. It's not like you can edit documents on it (besides google docs, but...), and typing emails on it isn't difficult the way it is... that's just funny to me ;) hehe

I think the guy wants to use it at home with a BT keyboard or on trips. Not generally carrying it around everywhere. I have an external kb for my laptop and I don't carry the kb in addition to the laptop. I just like having a full keyboard at home.

Something tells me it's not for home. Home = desktop or laptop, not cell phone with a keyboard.

The fact that you can't edit documents on it now is a major reason why I don't have one now. (AT&T's non-coverage being THE major reason.) You roll your eyes at me all you want, I'll just get some work done. ;)

i'd definitely go with the leper's model. i have an ipod if i actually want to listen to music. i'd most likely use the 4gb for storage of video and whatnot...80gb barely contains my music collection without wasting for video. and besides...video is far superior on the iphone, with its widescreen support and plethora of pixels compared to the classic.

Some of the posters here really have made me laugh. They obviously don't get the point of the poster stating the poll was poorly worded.
I have no plans to ever buy an iPhone, and for a whole litany of reasons. However, that doesn't enter into it as this thread is not about whether I would buy one or not, or anything else. It's about what you'd get IF you were to buy an iPhone at present, and in posting here I am accepting that premise.
IF I were to buy an iPhone, it would without a doubt be the 16GB model. Doubling the capacity for $100 more? Sure, why not.
Mr. Gollihue
Feb 13, 2008, 02:26 AM
using run-on sentences with words like "litany" and "premise" only cloud the puddle that is your point. i and many other people may understand what you meant, but if you're already "laughing" at the fact that others didn't understand an obviously direct poll question, why would you make your point even more convoluted by using so many words to say what just a few could concisely? in short, you shouldn't need to consult a style manual to tell people that you think they're ignorant...anything more than that is just pretentious douchebaggery.

*consults his handy desktop style reference manual*
*Hmm...*
Ok, right here on page 57. *shows Mr. Gollihue page 57* Right after the section about nymphomania and not wearing color-coordinated long coats in public places. *points* See? Right there. Absolutely nothing about being pretentious. Nothing whatsoever.
But you were right about the "laughing" part. Actually, I lied. I wasn't laughing.
*gasps and such from the other thread participants*
Yeah, it was actually more of a mild chuckle. Sorry, folks.
Man, it's a good thing I had a style reference sitting right there on my desk. I could have potentially looked silly(er) without it.
Nevertheless, you didn't even bother to answer my rhetorical observation. And... *consults style book again* that's gotta be worth, oh, three points it looks like... *squints* yep, three points for responding with a (mildly) insulting non-sequitur.

no question 16GB. I might be tempted to wait though, because Apple has been so excited about the iPhone, and focusing on it so much that i would not be suprised to see a 32GB and a price drop at WWDC '08, or at the Feb. 26 Event. But for now, the iPod touch is fine, no need for a $80 a month contract, although i would love an iPhone!

Well, as I said way up there somewhere, I have a Palm T5 that allows me to write and edit documents, and a plain phone that does phone things. (I believe that it will text message, also, but since I would pay extra for that I don't actually know. Stingy here.) This combination does all I need it to do. I just suffer from Cool Device Lust.
