Thumb buttons in Safari 3?

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, and now the forward/back thumb buttons won't work in Safari. They worked perfectly fine before the upgrade.

Does anybody know how I could fix this?

try trashing the safari plist

Edit: Is OP talking about a mouse ??

I take it this is with some sort of 3rd party mouse such as a logitech.

Have you (re)installed the software that came with the mouse or the appropriate alternatives.

LCC 2.4.0 works in Leopard. I normally set the thumb buttons to Cmd + [ or ] so it works in Safari and Finder.
