I replied in the other thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=429177&page=21#post4918274) - I ordered from a local reseller so don't have a shipping estimate (every time I ring up and ask for an estimate they say "soon").

Ordered on Jan 10th - stock octo 2.8GHz with the 8800GT.

Whereabouts in oz are you?

Cool. Yeah, well I thought the Aussies deserved their own thread if the Europeans have got their own. I probably should have put New Zealand in the title too.

Ordered mine through Myer (the closest thing Melbourne has to an official Apple store at this stage) on Jan 23rd. Standard-spec machine, plus 8800GT. No other customisations though.

The original ETA was today (Feb 8th), but when I called the store yesterday to check on things they told me at least 3 more weeks - apparently there is a parts shortage affecting all of their orders.

Can't say I'm happy, despite being extremely excited about the move from Windows to OSX the purchasing experience has been pretty awful.

I also spoke to the store yesterday about changing my order to a standard config and ordering the video card separately. Unfortunately, even a standard machine is at least a week away, and they won't order the video card for me directly as it would void the warranty if I installed it myself.

I don't believe their estimates of three more weeks. My guess is that it will either turn up next week (well before their estimate) or in 5 - 7 weeks. The 3 week estimate sounds more to me like a guess based on what the Apple site says.

All things considered, I'm really unimpressed. The Apple website has promised 2-3 week shipments for quite a while now, and still says exactly the same thing. The complete lack of communication from the reseller doesn't make me feel any better either.

I ordered mine on the 14th of January with the 8800GT, Airport Extreme card and a 500GB HDD instead of a 320GB. I ordered through a reseller so I can't check my online status, I rang them this afternoon to check and they reckon that in Australia you can't check whether it's shipped or not, but they said if they're shipping to Europe that's good news for us because they come from the same place (China I think).
I hope they get here soon though, I'm starting Uni in two weeks and I'd really love it before then :D

I don't envy you there. I've had my 23" Cinema Display for going on three years now. I want a second display, but I refuse to buy such an old model. Then again, I refuse to put a hideous Dell/Samsung whatever on my desk either (even though they are half the price).

Using an HDTV is just crazy though. You gotta have a real monitor.

I sure hope they DON'T release new ACDs cause I got a new one the week I ordered my mac. I imagine if they did release them there would be a bunch of angry new MP owners. But then again, look what happened with the iPhone price drop.

Gotta love this Apple game LOL

My gameplan is:

1. wait until MP arrives (obviously) - 15th of Feb (my estimate)
2. go to vacation to GC - from 25th of Feb to 5th of Jan (already planned)
3. track MacRumors from hotel room or iphone (while on the beach)
4. track the rumored end-of-feb apple event (if it's true)
5. Buy new shiny ACD2008

The Apple Australia site now says 7 - 10 bus days shipping for the Mac Pro with 8800GT!!!

So hopefully those of us who ordered fairly early on get ours within that time frame or sooner. It just seems kind of unfair that someone who ordered theirs 4 weeks ago will basically get it at the same time as someone who orders now. As long as I get mine within ten days I'll be happy.

They would be, except they're a true reseller - Myer's city store has at least a couple of people on the Apple payroll working their store while the new store is built. Doesn't make much of a difference though, for some reason Apple thinks it's a good idea to make buying through a store a bad move. I only went to the store for the staff discount in the end.

When you order direct from apple.com.au, there seems to be only one shipping method available, whether it is an iPod or a CTO Mac Pro. Standard shipping is it. In this case they estimated 3-5 days, I believe.

They are shipping direct from China, so there are really only two options for any shipper, a boat or a plane. A boat takes weeks, a plane takes a day. So standard shipping is a plane. Since Sydney is being used as the port of entry (customs), it seems that you get a time closer to the 3 days (1 day travel, 1 day on either end for customs, ground transport). If it was going to Darwin, I imagine 5 days would be more likely.

I bought the standard Mac Pro with Airport added, 2600 card on 31-01-08, shipped on 2-2-08 and I still do not have it. I ordered through Domayne (interest Free) with a 23 inch ACD. TNT have listed that the paperwork is ready to go 8-2-08, however they are waiting to get the Mac Pro from Sydney. TNT website shows that it wont be until 15-2-08. They cannot verify where it is and have advised that they will try to find it.
They have also advised that they have no reference of a 23 inch ACD. I will hold off on getting it until after the rumored 26 Feb Mac event.
Spewing this is taking so long, typical of TNT from what I have heard. Reason I didn't get the 8800 was because I wanted to get the Mac Pro as soon as possible and add the 8800 later.
Hopefully they will have some info for me tomorrow.

The thing is, I'm not sure I believe them. The info is so inconsistent, and I can't figure out where the 5 days comes from (can't be shipped by water, or it'd be longer, and planes are overnight). Very annoying really.

I really don't think it will be another two week wait for the MP, although I guess it depends how high up the Apple popularity list they are.

Well I actually live in what is considered by most couriers to be a "regional" area, despite the fact I'm 15 minutes from Melbourne airport. I'm in a town just north of Melbourne, not a suburb. It's the first time I've had an incorrect delivery estimate from Apple though, everything else I've had delivered has been bang on the date quoted.

That's great news.
So if you ordered on 9th of Jan, and I ordered on 19th of Jan. That means that I should have, let me think, ....about 10 more days to wait.:(

Maybe not... realistically it should be 3-5 days max, but seeing as you're ordering from a reseller maybe more. Fingers crossed anyway. You'll be blown away when you get it!

Man.. I ordered from Streetwise on the 10th of Jan.. still haven't heard. I think I'll be calling them again tomorrow.

Out of interest, what configuration did you order? Mine was a stock octo 2.8, with the 8800GT the only BTO option.

I ordered the single processor option, with 8800, airport card, everything else stock. Plus parallels and Vista premium OEM.
I suppose that they can only send them out as they receive them, Apple seem to be very random in the way they're delivering. None of this first in best dressed business.
I'd be surprised if you don't get an email soon.

Now, how am I supposed to sleep today?!

I notice that this thread has gone quiet all of a sudden... does this mean everybody's Mac Pro has arrived, or that everybody gave up waiting?

Mine is still not here (Jan order), despite Myer promising it will be here "tomorrow" for over a week now. TNT held onto it for at least 2 or 3 days, and the Myer distribution centre has held it for 4 calendar days so far, but at least I know for sure it is in the country.

The experience of buying this thing has almost completely turned me off the whole Mac thing BTW... constant delays, piles of problems with the machines once they actually turn up, and horrible customer relations from both Apple and the resellers... :( I was contemplating ordering a Macbook Pro next for when I'm out at customer sites but now I'm not so sure - unless it's off-the-shelf and instantly available I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

I'm sure your machine will be fine once you get it. It must suck to still be waiting. I can say that the only issue I have had with mine so far has been setting up bootcamp & parallels. Parallels wiped out the bootcamp partition and I had to reinstall. Other than that, awesome. But I hope yours turn up soon.

Mine finally arrived, after I spent almost every spare minute last week calling and hassling the vendor. The machine is excellent. The service from the reseller was abysmal.

Yeah the whole ordering/waiting process was pretty bad. It sounds like most people have got their boxes by now. Hopefully Apple will get their supply chain issues sorted out for next time (not holding my breath).
