Hey all. I have a problem. I have XP installed via BootCamp on my MB (see sig for specs) and KbdMgr (the black diamond in the system tray, that controls the volume and brightness etc) tends to either not load up or it glitches out. It happens when I yank out my USB headset to have the system revert to internal output, for example.

This is curable by alt-control-delete-ing and closing out of that process, and then reloading it via File ==> New Task in TaskManager.exe. Is there any way to stop the USB yanking from messing with KbdMgr? It's starting to be annoying...

EDIT: It also sometimes just conks out and won't show a difference in feedback (i.e. it won't seem to get louder even though it shows it on screen that it's going up, lack of a better way of describing it).

I was having the same problem on my brand new MacBook. The boot camp manager (kbdmgr) was not working on my Vista 32-bit installation. I would re-install boot camp and it would work once, then stop working when I rebooted. It was frustrating!

It turns out, my Webroot SpySweeper software was preventing it from running.

If you are running SpySweeper, try this...
1) Open up the SpySweeper control panel and go to the "Shields" area.
2) Click on the "Startup Programs" tab.
3) Uncheck the "Startup Items" checkbox.
4) Close SpySweeper, and reboot your machine.

All should be well again. I suppose you could leave the "Startup Items" checked and configure SpySweeper to allow the KBDMGR to startup. But, I preferred not to mess with it anymore since this worked (I did not want to push my luck!). :)

Anyway, I hope this work for you. If you aren't running SpySweeper, maybe you have another spyware protection application doing the same thing. Check your specific spyware app for the same behavior. Good luck!

Haha. Thanks for the reply. Since then I think I got it to work. I think the update to SP3 solved it somehow. I actually don't have it installed at the moment. I have its partition backed up via WinClone, but really... thanks for the reply. = )
