Ordered Jan. 10. Still says ships Feb.15. I phoned Apple yesterday to see what the holdup was. She first said it was the 8800GT card. I then said many people who ordered later than I did were already getting theirs with 8800GT. Then she said she didn't know and that it should still ship by Feb. 15. I complained and said I would then have to wait an additional 7-9 days after that for standard shipping. She put me on hold for 2 minutes and said she changed the shipping to 2-3 days for no extra charge. I said thanks and goodbye.

I'm a Canadian up here in Nova Scotia. I ordered my Mac Pro on the 14th of Jan. I originally had an estimated ship date of Feb 13th. Now I'm at an estimated ship date of Feb 19th. I ordered through a 3rd party shop since my friend worked there and I wanted to give him a sale. It's frustrating though since I have to check the status of my order through the store.
I'm not too pleased with Apple in the fact that people who ordered after me are seeing their machines shipped.
There seems to be no point in buying a mac through a 3rd party.

Ordered on the 10th of January, shipping date is supposed to be February 15. Given the speed of production and delivery these days, the Mac Pro version of these cards must have still been on the drawing board when the new Pro was announced with this option. I wish they had been a little clearer about that little "issue."

Ok, called Apple and grumped at them for the delay. That got me bumped up from standard shipping to expedited. That reduces the delivery time by 5 days on my order - might be worth it for others to do that as well.

i called today and politely complained that other people have ordered the same product after i placed my ordered, yet they have earlier expected ship dates. the lady said she could bump me to expedited shipping. it now says "2 day" for the shipping method. but the "receive by" date is february 27th? if it ships wednesday the 20th, shouldn't it be here friday the 22nd (2 day shipping), or even monday the 25th at the latest?
ordered on: january 20th
ships by: february 20th
original receive by date: march 3
new receive by date: february 27th

been lurking on here for years now and finally figured I should contribute something
Anyway I finally took the plunge and ordered an octo 2.8 with 8800GTS, 500GB HDD and airport on January 8th with a ship date of Feb. 14th. I'm in the Vancouver area and still no sign of shipping.
I called apple yesterday to check up on it but I was much to modest to ask for any kind of discount or free shipping because although I have been waiting forever, my ship original ship date has not yet passed so apple has no obligation towards me. Instead I sti hit hitting refresh on my order forf hoping for a miracle :)

Make sure and get your extra RAM from CanadaRam on the island. Great service and cheapest in Canada. However, you'll have to pay PST being in BC.

Yeah for sure, I am just about to order 2x2gb from them in the next few minutes actually. I'm going to try running with 6gb of ram and if mixing in the 2x1gb stick that come standard slows it down I'll pull them and just stick with 4gb until I get more money. I compared them to OWC in the states but with shipping and everything it comes out to only $20 cheaper and I'm sure there will be duty plus more taxes and stuff when it crosses the border. I'd prefer to support canadian companies anyway although OWC has served me well in the past.
Where do you guys shop to get hard-drives and more generic computer stuff? I've always used NCIX because they seem to have good prices and are easy to pick up and such. Anyone else use anything different?

I've used NCIX, DirectCanada, Cendirect, and FrontierPC. Usually when I'm shopping for something, I'll do a Canadian Google, and shopbot.ca or something similar will pop up with comparative Canadian pricing. Beware of some online retailers, as their lowest price may have the highest shipping costs. Tigerdirect.ca comes to mind.

I'm seriously thinking of ordering the Mac Pro with the 8800 and happened across this thread. I live in Calgary, Alberta and I'm assuming we don't get charged border holding fees etc. because we're ordering from the Apple Canada Store. Am I correct in assuming this? We get the small recycle fee but do we get GST and other fees?
Barefeats ordered the regular Mac Pro with the 2600XT and got the 8800 kit to save shipping time. Obviously extra money or hasstle if you sold it on ebay.

You pay the Apple (Canada) web store price plus shipping (if you want expedited) plus GST. No recycle fee.

Four drives in the MP bays, one goes into the second optical bay with standard 3.5 to 5.25 adapters, and the sixth I mounted in the PCI expansion area. I had wanted only five internal but ran into problems with eSATA to an external enclosure. Eventually I did get it to work and now have five internal and one external (need to update the sig:o). The two optical drive SATA ports are used for the fifth and external drives.

does anyone know if there is much of a delay between the "prepared for shipment" stage and it being actually shipping? can we expect that they will be shipped tomorrow?
also, what's the verdict on "2 day shipping." it still estimates "receive by" date to be 7 days after the ship date as opposed to two...

Doesn't anyone have any pride or moral fibre anymore? Calling up to complain about something that Apple hasn't actually done wrong, knowing that they will give you a prezzie just to shut you up?
Jeez!
If you are wondering what's immoral about it, I will spell it out.
People who do this are complaining that even though Apple has not broken any promises or shipping agreements, that they have been "misleading" in their presentations. They also think Apple has been "unfair" to ship to others sooner than they have to them, even though again, Apple has broken no promises and not actually misrepresented anything.
So they turn around and misrepresent themselves to Apple, so that they can get an unfair advantage over the other folks also waiting?
Again, not meant to pick on you personally, but it just shocks me that so many people are doing this, and so casually as well.

I'm going to assume our MP's are made in China, a suburb of Shanghai to be specific. Since the Chinese work 6 days a week, that explains why on Saturday they became ready for shipment. Tonight in N. America is Monday morning in China. I think that this evening we'll see our MP's as being shipped.
I'm not sure how 2 day shipping becomes 7 days on the order. In the past when I've ordered Apple stuff (Performa 6400, iMac G4) they've shipped from China, gone to Alaska, then to Nashville, and then to my city in Canada. This has generally taken 4-5 business days by regular shipping. It'll be interesting to see how expedited shipping is different.

i'm sorry that you feel this way... but i fail to see how this can be labeled as an "unfair advantage." you're making it out o be as if this is some sort of competition. if anything the unfairness stems from apple shipping late orders sooner than those who ordered early. i just happened to be on the lucky side of things.
apple has a customer service system implemented to do just that - satisfy the customer. it's a pity that the way it is set up positively reinforces this "behavior" but it's not like they could reward those who didn't call and complain. that would just be ridiculous. that's not how free enterprise works in north america. the customer is always right and that's the rules apple plays by. in turn it makes the company gads of money. not to mention that the difference in price between standard and expedited shipping (which they are already paying pennies on a dollar for anyway with their contract with fedex) is easily an oversight. don't be bitter because you feel too bold calling and requesting faster shipping.

I see your logic and would tend to agree except one thing. Put it in this light...I go to a well known high quality restaurant and order their finest steak. The waiter states that they only serve the freshest meat and it will take some time to prepare...approximate wait time 45 minutes. Not happy but understand. 10 minutes later, in comes some more customers who sit down in the surrounding tables and orders the same steaks. They are served immediately. By the time I receive my steak, (approximately 45 minutes) they are finishing theirs. No promises broken... Hmmm, I think I would not be happy! And, I am a patient man!

What? Basing your purchase on their website interface rather than their price and reputation? Why don't you just phone them at their toll free number? They answer the phone immediately and do know what they're talking about. I can't say the same for OWC in the US.
Why am I even responding to this? I have nothing to do with CanadaRam. I used them twice, got excellent service and product. I recommended them to those in Canada that need to buy MP RAM.

Your reply just amounts to the standard response given by anyone caught doing something that they kinda know they shouldn't be doing, or isn't *quite* being honest.
In a nutshell (paraphrasing), you said:
- "They were unfair first!" (wah!)
- "That's how the world is." (presumably with a shrug for emphasis)
- "They are a big corporation, so it's okay." (a la Homer Simpson)
- "It doesn't cost them anything." (the refuge of scoundrels!)
In any case, this is a minor point and has probably already received more attention than it actually deserves. I don't think you can argue that you are behaving in any kind of moral or "cool" way if you are one of those people phoning up just to complain and get your free prezzie (quicker shipping.)
Anyway, my advice to people is always to do whatever you want, but always be honest with yourself about what you are doing.

I paid the same big bucks (less actually, with my educational discount) for a new MP as you did. If you're getting your new MP weeks sooner than I am, after ordering weeks later than I did, I'd be pissed too. That's why I phoned, inquired as to why the shipping time discrepancy, and the service agent politely offered to expedite my shipping. Those who don't ask usually don't receive. No moral issues for me, just good business sense.

"caught doing something i kinda know i shouldn't be doing?"
where in my post did i even make reference to feeling like i should not be doing this? i explicitly said this is how it is and i 100% feel that i am entitled to free shipping if they are willing to award it. not to mention that i didn't even need to request it, i simply called, politely asked the status of my order and they upgraded me. but that is besides the point - even if i did call and unreasonably chewed the person out, i still would be in the right, because you know what? i am still the customer.
and yes, i did read you post. but in a nutshell it all boils down to you and I (along with many others here) falling on separate sides of the fence when it comes to this "moral" decision. but what i am telling you is not to complain to us about being so surprised and mortified that we would do such a thing when it all comes down to your opinion vs. ours.
contrary to popular belief the meek shall not inherit the earth and the squeeky wheel gets the attention. "That's how the world is." *shrugs for emphasis while sitting behind new octa core mac pro*

Before you go claiming the moral high ground, why don't you ask a few questions and not make assumptions? If asked I would have told you I have been dealing with one of Apple's small business reps since November. Based on our discussions of the 3D modelling work I do we agreed the best course was to wait until the keynote address. If no new Mac Pros were announced I was going to order one of the current versions and look at video card upgrades. After the keynote I ordered directly through him and he thought the delivery date would be 3 to 5 weeks, likely to the early end of that estimate. That would have been January 30th. When he wasn't available earlier this week I spoke with another Apple rep and 'grumped' about the delivery date not being what I was told by an Apple rep himself. I got a sincere apology and the expedited shipping.
So please explain to me what part of my actions suck and just where my pride and moral fibre are lacking.

Well my ship date is the 13th and at this point I'm almost hoping that they miss it by a day so I can 100% legitimately call them up and get faster shipping and perhaps a discount too. If that happens and it actually ships on the 14th with 2-3 day shipping I'll probably still get it before the regular shipping anyway.
Then again if they ship it tomorrow I'd be ok with that too. As for morals, I think this a bit of of a sticky situation. As long as people are being respectful when calling up then I think it becomes a personal choice. And it is true that if Apple hadn't screwed up in the first place none of this would have happened.
Anyway I might call again tomorrow if I still hear nothing

Here's the link and you had the right page: http://www.canadaram.com/macram.html
I had ordered the 4 X 2GB kit: Certified 61677-1x4 $495
and the 2 X 1GB kit: Certified 61676-1x2 $170
I ordered when the 800Mhz FB-DIMM's first came out before the price increases.
I have the Dell 2407WFP, bought in April '07. I really like it. Check all the reviews with a Google search. The older versions had problems which have supposedly long been fixed. What do you mean by "crisp for films"? It's very sharp and bright for video editing if that's what you mean.

I had wanted only five internal but ran into problems with eSATA to an external enclosure. Eventually I did get it to work and now have five internal and one external (need to update the sig:o). The two optical drive SATA ports are used for the fifth and external drives.
What kind of eSATA problems? Did you use the Newer Tech dealie?

So does anyone think if I cancel and re-order my MP that it might ship sooner than my current order that is to ship by Feb 25th and deliver on March 6th?
Don't cancel, but do order another. Then report back which one arrived first.

That's a beautiful monitor. I think I'm going to grab one...my first purchase from DELL. Damn, how the mighty have fallen. But, no I just mean is it like sharp. I can't stand some of my friends monitors. It's all blurry and pixelated. It looks so bad. I need to ensure the best visual graphics for film-watching, film-editing, and film-scoring.

Sorry to jump off topic a bit, but at least I know fellow Canadians will see my question...
Has anyone ordered anything from OWC (macsales.com)? Something I ordered almost a month ago is taking frustratingly long to get to my house :( I'm from Vancouver, by the way. It was just a MBP RAM stick and an external hard drive.
I ask because (and to be on topic a bit) I ordered my Mac Pro w/8800GT a couple days ago and I was thinking about getting RAM, internal hard drives, and another optical drive from OWC as their prices seem to be the best. CanadaRam.com seems like my next option if I'd ever have to wait a month for my upgrades again...

I ordered the 8gb kit from OWC and it came to my door in about a week. The shipping was only one step up-an extra dollar. Had to pay about 60$ duty.

Ah, I went with the cheapest shipping method, I suppose that makes the difference.
$60 duty? Ouch. Does that make you reconsider shopping there again? If I do go with OWC, I think I'll have it shipped to Point Roberts (just below the border) and pick it up there, and hope customs fees isn't that much.

I just tried their website. The memory configuring software link wouldn't work, couldn't find any sniff of FB-DIMM 800 MHz RAM, searched Apple RAM and got no results. I can't say I support your recommendation. I like www.CanadaRam.com even though their prices for our new MP RAM went up again yesterday.

My MP is on the delivery truck. It's been exactly 24 hrs from the pickup in Rancho Cordova to on the truck in Canada. When I get home from work it should be sitting in the front hall, as long as my wife signs for it. Now comes the fun. I've got to move a g4 iMac to make room for a G4 Powermac to make room for the new MP. It's the falling domino effect. I hope to have the MP running tonight with extra RAM and 4 new HD's installed. The original HD will be relegated to an external USB 2/eSATA enclosure.

I just ordered 4gb from CanadaRam on Monday morning and it shipped today and should be here by thursday, not too shabby. I looked at OWC and by the time you took into account shipping (free at canadaram) and duty I think it comes out pretty close. Plus I try and support canadian companies whenever possible.
As for my mac pro, my original ship date is tomorrow. I'm almost hoping that it doesn't ship so I can legitimately call them up and get some money back and fast shipping. For a poor student this almost seems like a better plan =)

I just went to the Canadian Apple store and reconfigured a Mac Pro with the 8800 GT and the ship time has been reduced to 3-5 days. Does this mean that they were short on the cards and that things should now pick up? This seems like a positive sign.

not sure if anyone saw my post, but total price for four 2gb sticks was ~450, shipped to my door in 3 days. from a US supplier, yes, but still just as fast (and more than likely cheaper) than any canadian retailer.

But, do they even have buffered, ECC Ram for the Mac Pro, Maverick? I searched, but couldn't find any. I ideally want to buy from a Canadian store, but TransIntl Memory has the best price right now.

Their Memory Configurator isn't working on their site so I phoned their store in Calgary (that's where I live) and they told me this:
Mushkin DDR2 PC2 5300 2GB $49.95
The sales person told me that they don't have 4GB sticks and can't even special order them. This particular salesperson didn't seem as knowledgeable about Apple stuff as the other sales people I've spoken to at the store. I'm going to phone the other store and ask them the same question and see if I get a different response.

Other store, different sales person:
This is fully buffered or FB dimmed (I don't know the acronym spelling) it has built in memory on it to do memory checking
Kingston KTA-MP-800-K2 - 2G 2- one gigabyte sticks (2GB) = $260
Kingston KTA-MP-800-K2 - 4G 2 - two GB sticks (4GB)= $620
These have to be ordered and take 5 business days. He said no one has yet ordered the 4GB sticks so he can't find a price yet, but they'd be around $1000 - his guess.

I just received my new Mac Pro today. Fed Ex was to deliver it yesterday but didn't so I went and picked it up myself today from there office. I installed a total of 10 gigs of ram. The 2 that came with it plus 4 x 2gigs from OWC. The Mac see it all. I also installed 2 more 300 gig HD's that I had from my PC. Everything works great the way they should. Now the problems. Every time I load Garage Band it crashes. It also stops working if I try to reboot after installing updates. I have to press the power button to reboot. Don't know why. Also the Mac runs a little slower loading programs than my old PC. I am not running anything intense, just FireFox, Mail, etc... This is also my first Mac so I know there are TONS of stuff that I am missing. First impressions I would give it a 8.5 out of 10.

first thing you should do is get memtest for OS X from http://www.memtestosx.org/ (it's literally $1.39) and check all your ram modules with it. a bad sector can cause crashing.
hopefully you get your issues straightened away!

You may have to reformat your PC drives in a format that is acceptable to the Mac. Although this would be a separate issue from your app problem.
My MP just shipped today - only 5 days after it was ordered. Looks like I'll probably get it before the monitor.

There has been lots of discussion about this fact, but the MP was designed to work with 800. Using any 667 will make all RAM go that speed. Also, matched pairs(size and brand) is required.
