Stacks- no option to fan or grid...

Hi,

I don't have the option to fan or grid my stacks. They are just in grid mode.

When I click and hold on my downloads icon I only get the options to

* Sort by
* Remove from dock
* Show in finder
* Open "downloads"

Can someone tell me what to do?

Please disregard my question. I worked out why they wouldn't fan.

My dock was on the side- apparently stacks only fans if the dock is on the bottom.
