New to Apple.Is 20" Aluminum low end good for me?

Hello Forum,

I am new to this forum but have been reading for 2 weeks while researching.

I am a current pc owner that is sick and tired spending hours troubleshooting and cleaning registry. I just need a computer that will work when I need it to.

I was thinking about the low end 20 " i-mac Aluminum. I use a computer for the following:

-surfing the web
-listening to music
-watching television off nbc. com, etc.
-watching dvd's
-video conferencing with in-laws overseas
-making home movies (from a sony dv camcorder)
-downloading photos (from a point and shoot camera)
-writing reports
This is pretty much it. I may use .mac to make a web. Not sure yet though.

Questions:


Is 2Ghz. enough?

Is 1gb is enough?

Is the HD 2400 screen ok or would I need 2600?

I heard of firewire issues. Will I have a problem hooking up a sony dv camcorder via firewire 400 and having i-movie 2008 read it? Never had issues before with crappy pc programs or old e-macs.

Can I type in Japanese? I know on pc's one is able to do so?

2Hz is fine but i would get another gig of ram and you should be just fine.

ive used an sony dv camcorder and worked fine with my macbook. i would also suggest getting a gig more of ram and possibly a bigger hdd because you would be surprised as to how fast your space will be filled with a lot of pictures and video

I use my iMac for all of those things listed, and it does a damn good job. I loaded mine up with 3GB of RAM, and it really does fly. Takes like 2 seconds to open Safari, internet browsing is smooth, browsing and editing photos through iPhoto takes seconds. It's a really great computer, and the 2GHz is more than enough for all of the tasks. I do suggest on maxing out the RAM, its really cheap right now and its worth every penny. Good luck.
