iPod touch New touch...Battery discharged

Just picked up a brand new Touch. When I started it up, the batter was discharged, all the way in the red. I was under the impression these came with a full charge. Could this mean my device was opened or something?

Batteries slowly lose life over time (mine is at 80% after a week on the shelf), dont worry bout it at all, perfectly normal, Charge it up and its good to go

Wow, very good to know. Another Wow: I bought mine yesterday and it's a 2007 week 48. It sure was on the shelf a long time. I live in a small'ish town:)
