Speaker question

Hello everyone. I am apologiez if this question has been asked. But do you know if its normal for one speaker to be playing while the other speaker on the iphone can barely be heard? I was playing music today and I accidently covered one speeaker with my finger and suddenly there was no music. Then I let go and music came back on. It seems that only one speaker plays while the other speaker idles. Can some help me out? Is this normal?

The two speakers on the bottom aren't both speakers, one is the mic.

Yes, one of the pictures on Apple's website had a diagram at one time (not sure if it is still like this) and it shows them both as speakers and that one has the mic as well. Unfortunately at some point they decided not to make it stereo and nixed the other speaker.
