time machine corrupt ?

Hi,

Tried to access my time machine drive but all i get is a star field and i cant change the folder im looking at or even cancel (have to reboot).

Is my time machine dead or is there some maintenance i can run on it. Ive tried verify disk and it claims the drive is fine.
