I have a Halo:Combat Evolved demo on my computer and have enjoyed it very much, but I was wondering. Can people who have the full version of Halo play with people who only have the demo on Blood Gulch? And if so can PC's play with macs on the demo/full version together?

MP = Multiplayer
I'm kinda surprised, but it looks like you can:
Halo for Macintosh lets you compete against 15 other Mac or Windows users on the Internet or a Local Area Network.

The Halo Demo is Mac - Mac.
Halo retail works PC - Mac

yeah thats what i thought.
the fact is, i do have 20 bucks for halo, the problem is, that the local apple store where i am isn't super big, so it doesn't have it, mostly used games. apple.com doesn't have any, neither does amazon, i'll have to check ebay. its like they are disappearing off the face of the earth. too bad theres no digital download.

There are a few copies on ebay. Although the mac version might fetch more than $20...

i didn't think that there was a mac version for halo, because of monopolistic pigs at Microsoft, who buy out everything and make it exclusive to windows. although there are some programs like crossover, parallels, and if you have leopard theres boot camp. crossover is the cheapest way to go, but boot camp will run windows natively.

I run Halo both as UB through Leopard and under Boot Camp for the PC version. Crossover is nice, but it really doesn't do well with most games. You'd be better off Boot Camping it if you want to play under Windows.
Also, Halo for Mac is no longer so, AFAIK.

Part of that is true.
Halo was made for Mac

Except MS cut off the licensing deal awhile ago so it's currently hard to find / expensive.

Macsoft's license to publish a Halo port for Mac expired in mid-2007; that's why it's no longer at the Apple Store (or anywhere else retail), and used versions will run you $50 and up on eBay.

Anyone know if the mac version can use serial from the PC version?

It cannot as far I as I know

Yeah, what we should do is talk to Bungie now since they aren't working with Microsoft anymore (thank god). We could really get something cool going, and it would start off as something for Macs only.
As for the whole Boot Camp thing, I've used Boot Camp before, on a friends computer, and I think it would be a lot easier to get Parallels, where you can just play through a little window (unless of course if Boot Camp can do that please let me know).

It might be easier so far as running Windows goes, but good luck running anything that requires a graphics card. You're better off using Boot Camp to play video games, by a long shot.

Ok. I just thinks its a hassle rebooting and rebooting over and over again.

Yes it is a hassle, but the performance difference between Boot Camp and Parallels is huge. Boot Camp is native, parallels is virtualization.
boot camp is the way to go

hey i need some major help here. I introduced my friends to halo demo alittle ago and they all have windows computers. I want to play with them but i cant because: firstly, the boot camp on my computer (macbook tiger) cant connect to my airport extreme(ill hopefully solve that today by reinstalling windows), and now the more important thing is that halo demo needs the directx 3D acceleration thing which my macbook doesnt have. plus the graphics card on my computer is BUILT IN which is totally annoying so now i cant even get a new graphics card to fix it. hellp meee:confused: i dont know what to do

I fear your best bet is to get the REAL version of Halo. Easy for your friends--not so easy for you since it's out of print. Good luck on eBay.
Make sure you buy the Universal version of Mac Halo, or else you will have to upgrade it via a $5 download.
I don't know if there's a Universal demo for Halo--I think probably not. So it would be hard for you to judge how Halo performs on your machine. (Non-Universal games are not Intel-ready and may run slow.) Halo might be OK on your machine, but I'd ask around before overpaying on eBay.
Or get UT2004 instead :) (Mac demo is that is NOT Universal, but the real game can run OK at low detail on X3100 graphics.)

Hello Halo fans,
Macsoft Halo Universal 2.02 (for OS X) gamepad support seems to have been broken by the latest OS X upgrade (10.5, Leopard). While the program DOES recognize my controller (the Logitech Rumblepad II), and allows calibration in the startup configuration application, as well as adding the Rumblepad to my profile within the game, the controller is entirely unresponsive while Halo is running. My gamepad works fine for many other applications. Halo for Mac remains an excellent application that runs quite flawlessly on the newest Mac software and hardware. A functional gamepad is all that's missing. Sadly, Macsoft (Destineer, Inc.), the company responsible for writing this port, no longer supports their product, so forums/Google seem to be my last resort. If whomever reads this could post it on an appropriate forum, or reply with ANY information about where support might be available, I would be grateful.
Sincerely,
Chapin Klein

This is completely false -- there's a few reports in the forum of MacSoft support taking care of problems recently. Have you even TRIED contacting them?

I'm thrilled at your confidence! What with the rumors of Macsoft's expired Halo license, and what seemed to be VERY few Google hits about anything Macsoft Halo support related, I had nearly given up.
Which forum are you referring to? Does Macsoft have it's own forum?
Have you even TRIED contacting them?
I did find a customer support number/e-mail address on their website -- 'support@destineerstudios.com'. It's been a few days and I haven't heard back from them yet; Maybe I'll revise my question...

This is just a follow-up to my initial request about support for Halo for Mac. I had been concerned that the product was no longer being supported, and boy was I wrong. Although my problem has not yet been resolved (my hardware and software is all up to date and compatible, but some other conflict still exists -- it may be specific to the VERSION of my Logitech gamepad), support is alive and well! If a solution is found that is relevant to all users, I'll post it here....
EDIT:
Oh crap, the Rumblepad II works fine, and always has. I feel like a bit of an idiot, but I just didn't set it up properly. I'd like to thank Jason Clark, Destineer Studios for his thorough response to my e-mails, and for pointing out this fact :)

Just a hint for anyone wanting to buy Halo (Mac edition): you can buy the German version for a lot less than the English version - usually new in sealed box, and usually already UB.
Then, you can get rid of all the German bits just replacing the content of the GameData DE folder (in the application folder) with the content of the English version's GameData folder. I did that for my second copy of Halo (the first being English) and it works without any problem.
The problem, for some, could be tracking down an English copy of Halo to get that English GameData folder... but, in case you don't know anyone owning a copy of Halo Mac, it's very easy to find it in the P2P network, and, since you actually end with using a regularly bought legit copy, it's not even that illegal as a move :-)
