Instead of wearing out your poor Apple TV, you can easily check to see when the new Apple TV update has been release.

1. Download Page Update Checker extension for Firefox

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/920

2. Install the extension

3. Visit the update xml with firefox

http://mesu.apple.com/version.xml

4. Right-click (ctrl-click) and select Monitor for Updates

You will be notified with the xml changes (and thus the update is available.)

Alternatively, you can use a notify-by-email web service such as http://www.changedetection.com/detect.html to email you when a page changes.

Enjoy. :apple:

You. are. boring.

You can always wait and find out about your software updates through a news site. If you are that kinda person, you are going to wait until you device blinks at you to update anyway.

There are forum threads here with people trying to guess when it is going to be released. With these tricks... you don't have to worry about it.
