A friend told me that charging an iPod touch using the USB cable connected to the PC is bad for the battery and that a dedicated charger should be used instead. Is this true?

No. Same power supply, same voltage, same ampreage.

bad for the battery in what way? I charge through the computer and through a charger and seem not to have issues...then, again, i have a mac:D

then why would it only come with a usb cable?
