As one of the free giveaway gifts at the Panther Launch tonight, Apple will reportedly be giving away (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/10/20031024123736.shtml) Panther Dog Tags.

http://www.macrumors.com/downloads/tags.jpg

This image appeared in an Apple Japan email. The tags were described by a Page 2 report as (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/10/20031024123736.shtml) "silver with a black Apple on one side, the other side being all black, one with just the silver X and the other with the silver X but saying Mac OS X 10.3 Panther Worldwide Release October 24th"

Another reader reports free Panther mousepads at their local Best Buy.

The 'Night of Panther' release party starts at 8pm at your local Apple Store or participating Reseller.

Holy crap, that is crazy!

I wanted a t-shirt pretty bad. A black tee with that silver X would have been very cool indeed, oh well. However, the dog tags will be useful when the war with Microsoft begins. Otherwise, I don't know what use you'd have for them.

I was considering going, but how many people will realistically be there? Like 3 people showed up for their music event last week. I don't want to be standing there with 2 or 3 other geeks with 10 apple store employees. Is this event really that big?

Just installed now. Very slick. They did a lot of work since the WWDC version.

Well I'm new here and I've had my Panther OS for over 4 hrs now and I love it. Someone complained that fast user switching took up to 5mins. I don't know what he was doing but mine took all of maybe 10 seconds. I've had 4 people logged on at the sametime and 10.3 remember where everything is still at when I switch back.

Oh yeah Mail can now connect up with exchange server so you don't have to use MS entourage anymore like I was doing.

UI on my Powerbook a Titanium G4 1Ghz with 512mb of ram seems to alot faster probably about 20-25% faster. If any of you guys got questions ask me.

The Xcode Developers Tool CD is just awsome you can program anything with it!!

Nothing from the apple centre in Oxford St either. In fact we had to queue outside for 30 mins in the cold whilst we watched the staff meet and greet 'vip's with wine and food who all had sneak previews

When the doors opened we were whisked to the sales desk, £100 please and that was it, off you go. Thats a really great way of making people who've come and queued outside your store feel special. That's any future orders from me going to another supplier.

I'll add mine to my Apple keychain. I've had it since I was 12... I went around the house and found keys that didn't open anything so I would have a reason to use it. When I thought I lost my keys on vacation I was more concerned for the Apple than for the keys!

Two more hours! I'll be heading over in one to stand in line.

I picked up my copy at a local Apple Reseller and they were giving out free Panther mousepads with every pre-order. They were also pawning tees, 14.95 each tee.

No dog tags.

I was surprised to see about 15 people watching some quicktime video in their little theatre they had set up. Not sure what it was for because I wasn't paying attention, but I did notice that everyone there was over the age of 55.

Pretty non-eventful... they tried to get people to be rowdy..but nothing much happened. Wouldn't even give me a discount because I bought my cat online and had it installed already. Didn't have wireless mouse either.

Oh well. Dog tags are cool but no dogs/cats to wear them... I guess that's something for my sleeve! :)

I find it hard to believe that you actually thought you could get an "only available by purchasing at the store" discount after you purchased it online. That is the point of these kinds of events/discounts - get people into the store where they are more likely to make multiple purchases when faced with the discount and actual item.

Yes, I would like to see a picture. It should be really cool.

I wore my dog tags to the Apple Store today. Had on a gray shirt and a black sweater. Two different individuals walked up to me asking, Do you work here? The response was because of having tags on.
