I've had an issue with my dock / Finder ever since I installed Leopard, and I was hoping some of you folks had an answer.

Occasionally, when I click an icon on the dock to launch and application, the containing folder will open up in a Finder window instead. For instance, if I click Safari, rather than firing up Safari a Finder window will come up already in the Applications folder with Safari selected. I can launch from there without any issues but once this starts happening it takes a reboot to get normal dock functionality back.

I also noticed when this occurs, that the "Finder" in the top menu bar never goes away, no matter what application I'm in. Even if I am in Safari, all I have is the Finder menus at the top. This is even worse than the funky dock launch scenario above, and once again a reboot clears this entire situation up. One other thing - I always can tell when this is happening as the first symptom I usually notice is that clicking a link within Safari suddenly starts opening in a new tab rather than the existing tab. As soon as I see that happen, it is guaranteed that the dock will no longer launch, and the Finder menu will be stuck at the top.

The reason I mention it now is that before 10.5.2 this happened only occasionally - maybe once every three or four days. I installed 10.5.2 tonight, and so far I've had to reboot six times already due to this issue. So whatever Apple did in this latest update has made this problem worse.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
