This has happened a million times before, and on other rumors sites as well. A newbie to the site posts that they know some sort of insider from Apple or NVIDIA or something, and claims that they know when a new product is going to be released. Sure, I wouldn't mind the new MBP's being released tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure that isn't gonna happen.

I'll give the OP $10 via PayPal if an updated MBP comes out between 11:59AM 2/12/2008 and 11:59PM 2/13/2008.

Updated is defined to mean including different hardware than what is currently shown on the Apple Store in the US as of 7:38PM 2/12/2008.

All times are EST.

Hey guys I am a newbie too and I spoke to my friend who works in the Apple store on 5th avenue. She told me the laptops are coming out in three weeks and will have celerons in them.

You heard it here first folks.

On a serious note, I do have a friend who really does work there (two actually), and they are both completely clueless on this. One is a genius, the other works with the registers.

I don't understand why people are going so insane over this. I have a real reason as my current MBP is dead, out of warranty and the hard drive that broke is currently being replaced by Western Digital RMA. So I won't have my old MBP working for another 2-3 weeks at least. I wanted to buy a new one today, give the old one to my parents, and I can't do that either. I can afford one laptop and I do not want to buy the outdated model out now.

I need this computer for work and school, its important I have it. But I am not going insane, its a freaking computer, heck maybe be excited for an iphone or something, but this is simply a computer that is going to be a little faster, or a little nicer looking. That makes me wait, but it doesn't make me go insane waiting.

When Jobo released the iPhone only 30 odd people had actually seen it. The software and hardware development team were actually housed in two entirely separate buildings and had no idea what they were working on.
Needless to say, Apple staff don't have a clue. If an insider gives you a *wink* and whispers you a date, take it with a pinch of salt.

Exactly! :)

I will never get why people are selling their computer or delay to buy a new one just because there MIGHT be an update in a few days and then complain all the time that they don't have a machine to work with.

The way I see it, if I buy a MBP today I'm buying technology that is eight months old. If I hang on (probably) just a few weeks I can spend the same money but get a higher spec'd machine which, in theory, will last eight months longer (in a few years some software's minimum requirements will be above that of the current MBPs but will run on the soon-to-be-released MBPs.)

I didn't pay attention to any rumours when I bought my PowerBook G4. Just a week after it arriving, Apple announced they were dropping IBM and going to Intel. The resale value of that machine plummeted. I don't want to make that mistake again.

I see people waiting as people who are shrewd with their money. £1300+ is a lot of cash to spend and those who are hedging their bets are, in my opinion, very sensible.

He says "Time for a Wednesday release" - I think that's the give away.

I think he's wrong, except:

iPod classic/Nano/Shuffle: Weds 05/09/07
Macbook last updated: Thurs 01/11/07
Cinema displays last updated: Weds 04/04/07

So Apple don't only update stuff on a Tuesday...

Just because that was when they were released doesn't mean they were announced that day, they were prob announced on a Tuesday.

Next time, please reply to one of the existing "speculation" threads, rather than creating a new one. Thanks.

Exactly. I think it's perfectly OK to kick OP's ass. Don't worry, it won't hurt much. :D

well the day isn't over, but it appears that things aren't going to turn out as i expected.
i was wrong, and to all those whose hopes that i raised, i sincerely apologise.

nevertheless, it has shocked me how immature the macrumors community appear to be. Admittedly it isn't everyone, but some of the comments posted here are a little over the top. It is a computer afterall!

how did you expect a rumored forum site to be? everyone is friendly round here and loves one another ;)

OP I believe you believed you were correct, so I'm not angry at you for being wrong.

Also, your proper use of They're instead of Their or There gives me hope for the future.

I hope you were only 6 days off :) Stay grammatically correct!

"Using Multi-Touch Trackpad Gestures with Aperture 2

If your portable computer has a Multi-Touch trackpad, you can use Multi-Touch
trackpad gestures when working with Aperture. For example, when working with
images in the Browser, you can use the rotate gesture to rotate images and the swipe
gesture to select a different image. In addition to using the standard trackpad gestures
used with Mac portable computers, you can also use Multi-Touch trackpad gestures
with the following Aperture features."

Given that the instructions focus on portable computers and the only the MBA has multi-touch it would be safe to assume that other laptops would be coming out supporting multi-touch. Aperture is a pro product and the MBA doesn't seem a likely candidate for Aperture.

It gives me hope that the new MBP's will be out soon.

The thing is, my mom's friend really does work for Apple and he NEVER tells us anything. He has a pretty high position in Asia too (looking for business card atm).

Post or pass along the contact info when you can. :)

Hey mate, just because you don't get any, doesn't mean that you have to take it out on anyone else. I mean, when the only pleasure you're getting is sticking your Mighty Mouse into your MBP, what right do you have to tell him to leave the forums forever?

I suggest that you either:

Stop having sexual relations with your Laptop

or

Get a life and stop bashing OP's.

The 19th or 26th is looking pretty good :D

Seriously though, the iPhone/Touch SDK thing on the 26th is a much, MUCH bigger deal to Apple than a MBP refresh. They want as much developer support as possible, and as much press as possible to combat the notion that the iPhone is a "closed" platform. So it makes sense to focus on that for the 26th.

I'm hoping for the 19th on these MBPs. I've only gotten desperate in the past few days :)

leave this guy alone. he obviously wasn't joking around - he believed it and wanted to tell everyone else as a courtesy. There isn't anything wrong with that, whether or not what he says comes true.

I completely agree with you. The tone of my post wasn't to pick on him, it was to say "I believe you weren't screwing with us". I think he's an OK guy. The guy right before me needs to lay off him.

b) My 'Uncles-Brothers-Son' Scenario
c) Absolutely no relevant proof attached to OP
