something interesting is the deal they're offering with the pbooks for apple displays...

you can get a display and a dviator for the same price you could normally get the display itself for (ie. you get 150 bucks off when you get both with the pbook)...

but the interesting thing is, the 15" is not included with that.......hmmm

another noteworthy spec that people had been asking for...

the resolution is higher now 1280x854 (not sure what it was before) and supposedly is better quality display overall.

and the dvi-adc adapter is now "apple brand"... still same 149 price, but i guess it's better to be from apple than a 3rd party...

enjoy all you powerbook fans.

are they frickin nuts??
europe is being ripped of again: 5400€ for the top model, that's 1/3 more than the us counterpart
europe has always been more expensive but this is unacceptable
i can get on a plane for that amount and still have money left
i can ****in import one myself and save money

I've been waiting a long time for new powerbooks & when they arrive i can't afford one

I am not happy!

Some nice specs......

Especially like the higher res and L3 cache and DVI output......

800Mhz ain't gonna make me bring my buying window forward from next feb though, although it's a nice increase on specs over the .......

But good on Apple though for releasing these, they were in dire need of this upgrade!!!

I LOVE APPLE!!! :D ;) :) :p

Well done Apple...now we're coming back into the race....
so, what's everyone's predictions for the next PowerBook? I mean, this is a hardware rumors forum so what can you cook up? I guess they'll be steady for a while now since everyone (including me) is satisfied with Apple's offerings...Next update, if minor, will take it up to 1GHz, but if major, a G5 sounds cool...well done again for Apple!!

 not quite a third, but still an extra 1000 € in Germany and an extra 1250 € in Ireland! Doesn't Ireland even have an Apple manufacturing plant somewhere?

I just might wait until I go to the US, like you said, the flight's paying for itself and then some.

They even come with audio-in!

Damn, now i have a real dilemma. Do i keep my current system, or take the bait and upgrade? The extra power would sure be nice :)

Once again the rumours were very close to spot-on. I'm impressed! The eMac comes out of the blue though. It looks like some of those mock-ups of the flat-panel iMac last year. I guess apple are going to keep the WWDC for software-only announcements, as they said they would.

Great uptake. I waited for that.
But what about the heat problem? The fan noize was already a problem in the old 667. Now the G4 is faster and the 7500 radeon is burning too. Or do they use a cooler G4 derivate?

Re. my earlier complaining about the Mac prices in Europe.

My bad - I didn't notice that they now include VAT in the price. Usually they leave that out to make the machines look cheaper. Once you take out the VAT for the Apple Store in Ireland, it comes out to be about $250 more than in the US, which on that kind of machine is actually acceptable, all things considered.

It's great to have the 800Mhz finally here, but bring on the 1Ghz model, anyone got any ideas as to how long we might have to wait for it?

Here is one "rumor" about Powerbooks that has just grown silent:

What happened to chrome?

Just a thought...

Yaaaaawn!I get sleepy trying to keep up with Apples stunningly slow progress, and amazingly unimpressive product upgrade releases.
This is not intended as bait, this is just the way I feel.
I sure hope they get their ass's in gear soon.

Actually, Apple does a pretty fair job of updating its product lines.

The only reason it feels slow is because when Apple upgrades, they typically are upgrading either or both the processor or the machine exterior.

When PC's update, the speed updates come from either Intel or the Althlon crew while the exterior upgrades come from Sony, Compaq, HP, Dell, Gateway, etc. etc. etc.

It only seems like Apple is slow because you are lumping every PC maker together with the x86 chip makers versus one company.

Try comparing apples to apples. Moto is slower than Intel, but not too bad. We've already had a couple of speed bumps this year. Apple has been pretty quick on updating its computers compared to any of the single PC makers.

Oh, and as for unimpressive, the jump from 667 to 800 is the equivelent of the top of the line PIV at 1.8 GHz jumping to 2.16 GHz. Since I haven't seen that size of a jump in a while, I'll give the edge to apple.

exactly, edge to Apple and TiBook to me!:D

Excuse me for asking this, but...
why is the recent speed bump equal to an over 300 speed bump on the pc side. I am curious .
And please be as specific as you can stand,.

I know some of you out there already have the new tibook, so I was wondering if you could share your experience with it so far...

Do you find that they get as hot as the previous rev?

How about the fan-- is it turning on less often?

Is the new 667 noticably faster than the old?

Have you been able to compare the airport performance/range to the old?

And, it's probably to early to tell, but do you think Apple solved the problem with the paint?

Thanks in advance for any insight you have to offer.:)
