System Restoration from Time Machine

Is is possible to do a full system "restore" through Time Machine?

essentially creating a system-wide "undo" button...

yes. boot into the install DVD and choose Time Machine from the Utilities menu.

and that works with any backup? hourly, daily, weekly?

im not sure i havent done a restore yet. but i presume it would restore your whole system including the most recent changes since the last backup.
