View Full Version : My New Mac Pro Pictures

Feb 14, 2008, 03:31 AM
This is my second Mac Pro. My first quad core was returned due to video card issues. This one is an octo core with the 8800GT and airport. I also have 6gb of ram and two 750gb Samsung Spinpoints ready to be put in software raid 0 (I'm running it stock for a few days to see how it does). It's running 10.5.2 and it's perfect so far. No lag, unlike my first Mac Pro which was constantly laggy. I got the ACD the first time I around, it's wonderful. So far it's flawless no dead pixels (knocks on every piece of wood in his house).
This one came with the Seagate drive and it's pretty quiet, but not as quiet as some of the older Barracuda drives I've owned over the years. The fans and PSU are silent though. The HDD tray wasn't pushed all the way in or got dislodged during shipment and made an awful noise, had me paranoid at first.
I will take more pictures of the inside once I get the hdd's and ram in tomorrow.
Anyway, here are the pictures.

No choice currently, as you can see. I'm a neat freak that vacuum's his house twice a weak with a miele hepa filtered vacuum. There is very little dust here; however, yes, my new desk/setup will have the Mac Pro off teh floor.

Well if you didn't buy such a big Cinema Display you'll have room on your desk for the Mac.:p

The aluminum shields most if not all magnetic interference from the woofer, also the woofer is shielded itself. I've had 3 pc's next to that woofer for a good 3+ years without any issues.

I lifted one of these things onto a nearly 2" thick wooden desk.
The desk bowed...
Make sure your new desk is a sturdy one :)

Nice set up mate the 30" looks huge!! LOL
I was going to take pics of mine as I have the same setup as you minus the 30" but didn't get round to it.
What are you using the system for?
Also something I haven't done yet which I would like to. How do I make a dock of applications like you have there?
Cheers

Thanks for all the kind comments. I really love the 30" ACD. It's truly amazing. I had two dell 2005FPW's prior to the 30" ACD and they cannot compare. Color, brightness and black/white reproduction is amazing on the ACD.
As for the Mac Pro, I'm just starting to enjoy it now. I had to return my first Mac Pro due to the Ati video card issues, this one seems to be rock solid. I'm going to open it up tonight and add my HDD's and RAM.
For those waiting, don't wait, get a Mac Pro and 30" ACD. You will not be disappointed!! I debated waiting too, I'm glad I didn't!

I've had 3 pc's next to that woofer for a good 3+ years without any issues. It doesn't seem to be a problem, but looking at your setup, it seems like there isn't a pressing reason the subwoofer couldn't be on the left side...besides being magnetically cautious, it would be more balanced visually.

How about getting some furniture - or something to hang on those walls?
That room looks awfully nekkid without that desk and PC - or did you spend all your $$$ on the Mac Pro setup?

I personally would have gone with Berber carpeting, or hard-wood; maybe a wide plank dark cherry or mahogany finish.

I sure would as well ;) Unfortunately this is a rather large spare bedroom upstairs that has turned into a bedroom. I'm moving to the basement soon and that will be hardwood, cherry, thick plank.

I just got my Mac Pro also and it is awesome. However I am delaying on the picture taking thing until I get my 23-inch cinema display (it just would not be as impressive with this 17" Samsung piece).
Speaking of vacuums, I have a this (http://www.dyson.com/store/product.asp?product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US) one and it has been working out real nice (I think of it as the Mac Pro of vacuums). :)

can't put solid hardwood plank flooring in a basement if the floor is concrete/slab unless you build an underfloor first.I wanted to do that and found out it would add a 1 inch slope to the entrances and exits.

Okay, your Dell's are a bit older perhaps, so that explains the difference, but do you know that Dell and Apple use exactly the same panel? It's from Samsung, if I remember correctly.

My dad uses dells for his work, and yesterday he was having some problems with it. He called up his tech guy and was told he needed more ram. He went to dell's website and they told him he needed DDR2 667mhz PC5300 ram. He got some and replaced it in his machine. The computer started acting up, the monitors were mirroring when he wanted them to act seperately and the screen resolution was bloated and did not fit. He put the old ram back in and is now only having the problems he was having before. I told him he should have got a mac, and I think I kind of pissed him off lol.

You Sir are EVIL...
Not for (Finally) getting a great Mac Pro that works…
Not for your 30” wonder window of greatness…
You are EVIL because of the color of your office/guest room. I called my wife in to check out your set-up and she noted that color would look great in our bedroom….guess what I’m doing this weekend…..yep your EVIL. BTW a sincere good luck with your new Mac. I’ve read your other posts…Great set up. :)

The Dell's were a bit old, yes, but their not S-IPS panels. The Cinema Display and most Dell Displays are LG/Philips panels. The Cinema Display is S-IPS SOHC certified. I have a Dell 2405FPW downstairs, that is fairly new, the ACD is head over heels compared to it as well.
The Cinema Display cannot be beat in my opinion. Only other current rival is the Dell 3008FPW. It's $300 more and still not superior to the ACD in any respects other then brightness and a slightly higher color gamut %.

My setup is similar to Mr.PS. I bought the stock w/ 8800GT. Bought an additional 8GB (2GBx4) from OWC and 2 750GB Samsung F1 drives from Newegg in software RAID0. My 30 ACD comes 21st.
So far, this thing rocks. I haven't attempted a sleep since I don't care about it. Leave it on for all I care. I don't pay the electric bill at work.
This is fast and quiet. With my old Dell desktop out of the way, I can hear the quad core (cheap custom built from local shop) virtual server next to me now. I don't really use it. But it sits next to me. I didn't hear it before.
Putting in the RAM & HDDs was a breeze. I left the stock drive out in case I have to take it in.

I returned my Samsung 750GB Spinpoints, they made a super annoying noise (search for my latest threads). I'm getting another pair. As for the ACD - you won't be disappointed.
I sleep my Mac Pro nightly and it doesn't have any problems. I care about the electricity even though I don't pay it, I don't like to waste, but anyway, the Mac Pro even when idle doesn't use much power.

mine were as well; however, every 15-20 minutes they would make this horrible reset sound much lounder then the normal read/write noise. It drove me crazy. It was a large buzz/drone every 15 minutes. I believe they were faulty, I'm anxiously awaiting a refund.

They're M-Audio LX4 StudioPhile studio monitors. They're a 2.1 system, although they can also be a 4.1.

No worries, thanks. I really would prefer hardwood though. It's just better ofr an office. Has nothing to do with ease of keeping it clean or anything. It's just more office friendly.

Oh how one can dream, April 1 I get a pay rise I get a Mac!
Sweet.
Although my question that I still ponder is WHY is there a nearly $1000 NZ difference between the price of the stock Mac Pro between Australia and NZ???
Our currencies are nearly on par with each other. Is it just market size?
Also is it worth investigating buying in Australia and shipping to NZ to save the extra $$$????
Oh so jealous! :D

Mine is silent as well. The only noise is this rpm drone that goes up an down, but it's the stock 320GB Seagate HDD that came with my Mac. I'm ditching it once I get the 1TB time capsule.
