Leopard for upscaling DVDs

I'm looking at getting my first Mac. In a hardware thread someone mentioned that Leopard rivals upscaling DVD players for HTPC. Are they saying that the upscaling capability of the DVD playing software in Leopard was improved? Or is there something in the OS itself?
