Take 2 and external USB HD?

I saw number of people posting this sporadically in other discussions. But there does not appear to be a clear answer to the possibility of connecting an external USB disk drive to Apple TV (with Take 2).
If this has been commented on, could you please point me to the appropriate thread?

Note: Prior to Take2, I hacked my box with Awkwardtv and was quite happy with all the plugins (incl. nitoTV). I used these plugins to browse external drives. Is this still my solution?
