Not sure if this has been posted already, but do you have Magnification on your dock?
 
I do, but it's getting to the point that I have so many items on my dock that it won't magnify much anymore because it won't have the room to expand the dock. lol
 
I use it. I never used to use it, but once I turned it back on, I realized it made selection a program from my dock a lot easier, especially if I had lots of stuff in there. Bigger icon temporarily = more space for my mouse to click, so I can be less exact, and it goes away when I need the screen real estate back.
