I want to incorporate a sidebar like this one into my site:

Is the slide over effect from a JS library? It's not from scriptaculous.

Here is the new version of my blog I am working on now:

It's still a work in progress. The main thing I am interested in, is a functional sidebar like that one.

It uses Mootools.

Mootools is a javascript framework. It is a very good framework (Im using and learning it now) and I recommend it. Take a look at its documentation and forums to learn how to use it.
