I spend many, many hours at school. Even with no class, just because of the internet difference. I can't stand my home connection.

I did a rerun, since the connection wasn't "warmed up" on the first try. And an above hundred looks nice, doesn't it...

It's supposed to be 110/5Mbps connection and I'm using it over wi-fi, so I'm satisfied. With 10€/month more I'd get 200/10, but the significant other said that that money should be spent buying something nice for the kid...

(We actually had the 200/10 for a while, since the service provider automatically upgrades the speed for the same price when the higher speed becomes available. But we downgraded it, since the 1st gen TC and early 2009 iMac couldn't handle it over wi-fi... Or even the 110 for the maximum capacity. It was mostly about the relative locations, older tech... Now I have the newest iMac and TC and it's just... Super!)

Guessing Virgin Media aren't hooked up in your area either? Sucks doesn't it!

I'm currently living with a friend up in Lincolnshire for a business startup. Our Broadband (if you can call it that!) is running on a 40 year old telephone line. Cant wait to get back to my 50Meg Virgin connection down in North London next month!

Don't get me wrong, I didn't interpret your post like that. There isn't a real contest (this isn't the goal of the thread), but obviously, the one with the fastest connection can be called the "winner".

It's just the way that my sentence was written, I guess.

No worries- sorry if I came off a bit harsh. Honestly my internet here doesn't seem that much faster than my FIOS at home (something like 25/15).

Not at all.

Speedtest measures how fast the router can download/upload. Not your actual computer itself.

Granted, some different devices do make it different, but only slightly.

You might gain about .75 mbps if you connect via ethernet.

The most gain will be in ping times, but speed isn't an issue as you said, even 802.11g can sustain up to 54mbps.

sometimes the real real slow ones make no sense. some of the slower speeds people are paying for broadband and getting barely over telephone line speeds. I realize not everyone has new lines but if you dont have the lines for broadband you shouldnt be charging people for it. that just really bugs me. if its below 1Mbps you shouldnt be paying broadband prices.

Are all of these insane (over 50 mbps) speeds coming from FTTP? In Hawaii the fastest available at any cost is supposed to be 30 mbps but is really more like 20, and costs $100 per month. What are you guys paying for those manly connection speeds?

Wow, cable here not so great.

FIOS at my dads place, rock solid 25Mb down, 25Mb up, and 8ms ping. Wish we had FIOS up where I lived in NH.

80GB limit - that's pretty brutal. Bandwidth is going up across most ISPs, user consumption is also climbing - but most companies are reducing quotas... Part of me wants to kill off my cable TV for the likes of Amazon VOD, and Hulu... but the other part of me sees my ISP shrinking our monthly limit to the point where those will be impossible to support.

Amazing. I would move to Japan for that :P just moved to a new location in a different area in Tokyo and changed my ISP, too. Again having a Hikari-Fiberoptical line direct to my desk.
Connected via a 5th gen AirPort Extreme I get extreme nice values

frist one:
310882

second one:
310883

third and best:
310884

very happy camper here :)

Still "unhappy" with my Xi-MobileWifi Router; don't reach the values of 37MBit/s as in marketing slides; but for daily commuting live it is actually ok

Ammmm. Basically, before I was using iPhone internet tethering, but it was basically same as mobile broadband witch I have too. £16 a month.
Now - first 3months £30, then 9months £35. After 3months I think I'm getting 100mb/s which costs £45 a month, because I think I will have a server then, which I will use.

I've always found them to be terrible out here in CO compared to broadband, but I've also never gotten your speeds either. What part of CO are you in.

Was visiting my parents down in Pueblo over the weekend, and they have qwest with their DirecTV package, and this is what their speeds look like....

The ISP probably would have just said what his college was, so he didn't want people to know what college he went to. College/Universities are trying out a new sort of Internet connection that is far faster than us average consumers can get, IIRC.

It comes down to the level of service your parents pay for, if they have the 1.5Mbps service then those speeds aren't bad (Qwest QOS for residential is about 85%). I've got the 40Mbps seervice so the 35 is at least within their QOS agreement. If they are paying for faster than 1.5Mbps and only getting 1.3Mbps, they definitely need to open a trouble ticket!

I don't know what they did but suddenly I'm getting the speeds I am supposed to :)

Pay for 100Mbps down and 2Mbps up, much better than the 30Mbps - 65Mbps I have been getting since the upgrade (usually on the lower side).

That's the worst ratio of down:up I've EVER seen. Mind you, mine is 1:1...

It is typical for the primary cable providers in Australia unfortunately. They think that we'll start to run businesses from home internet links if they allow us more upload bandwidth... Stupid historical reasons.

The speedtest seems to be a bit on the low side. I can download with a whopping 365 KB/s and upload about 50 KB/s. My adsl line is 5.2 Kilometers long and there is no cable internet available.

It is however a lot better then my previous connection (other ADSL technique with different modem, but same location). That was downloading with 100 KB/s. A simple 365 MB update took an hour to download.. Awfull.. Now that's less then 20 minutes, which i can live with. :)

At home... not as much. I have 6Mbps down/512kbps up but regularly get in the 4.5-5.2 range down (and pretty much the full 512 up).

Now how to figure out how to play my PS3 here at school after hours... lol

On Bell Aliant's 250 MB/s FibreOP myself. Of course, it's 249.99 a month so we all go splits on it and use it as an alternative to having digital cable (we stream with AppleTVs instead).

I know, it supposed be like 22mb download, so it is about 3mb in torrent download, not freakin 11mb. I'm not speaking in mB / MB's, but thats how it about works.
my download speed / by 8 and there's my torrent download speed.

Maybe someone in UK knows how to contact Virgin Media for this ****?
Originally it should be 50mb/s, and before two weeks it stayed all the same at all times in a day, till they starting fixing something. I checked status in here (https://my.virginmedia.com/faults/service-status) and they were showing for about two weeks till they 'fixed' it today.
I'm taking my GCSE's and this **** is going on with Virgin. I can't even watch revision videos on YouTube which are 6mins long...

One minute its:
